CLASS VOTING IN CAPITALIST DEMOCRACIES SINCE WORLD WAR II

The turnout in different metropolitan communities has shown that the poor people tend to participate less in the voting process. As the democracy departs from class politics and class related political vehicles, the society tends to vote less as a whole. The participation in the voting process may therefore be tied to the methodology associated with it where people participated along the class divide. However, as class politics becomes more and more divorced from democracy; people tend to abstain more from voting. Factors that may be blamed for this departure from normalcy include: increased hardship in starting and running a labour party, and decreased hardship associated with running a political vehicle that is distanced from the traditional ones. The political vehicles seem to have stopped being representative.

The influence of class on political participation has always been a real issue. Reportedly, the poor have always preferred to not vote owing to the difficulties associated with the voting process. Others include dislike of the parties seeking leadership positions, illness, and administrative and registration problems. These are all situations that are closely associated with poverty. However, in the recent past, the voting structure has changed so much that voting along class lines has almost been entirely cancelled out. Turn-out has also reduced a lot in the recent past. This has in the middle of increased level of education, improved living conditions and a growing economy. Knowing this, it can be inferred that while political class and level of living have always been a factor that determines the level of participation among the populations, other factors, larger than itself are increasingly affecting the turnout late.
