Federal Government Abortion Funding

The government’s abortion funding is an aspect I’m greatly against since it is both ungodly and a waste of taxpayers’ money. However, I would support the act if it were a matter of life and death involving a mother’s birth complication. Federal government spends a lot of money annually on Planned Parenthood and which would be directed into life saving health care programs.

The Accountability Office report indicated that the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) documented an acquired $487.4 million taxpayers’ dollars within a twelve-month duration and performed 329,455 abortions in 2012. This is great deal of money spent on abortions in only twelve months. The most recent annual report that covers the duration from 1st July , 2009 to 30th June, 2010, the PPFA’s financial year. The report indicates that the organization acquired state health services grants and compensation totaling overv$487.4 million.Earlier Planned Parenthood yearly reports indicated total financing from state grants and contracts that amounted to $363.2 million in 2009, whereas this year’s report in addition accounts for financing from Medicaid supervised care plans among the funds the group acquires from government (Cnsnews, 2014).

When compared with earlier yearly reports, the current one shows a steady rise in the figures of abortions undertaken at its clinics: In 2006, Planned Parenthood performed 289,750 abortions; in the year 2007, it performed 305,310; in the year 2009, it undertook 331,796; and, in 2010, it performed over 329,445. This indicates a sharp increase in the number of abortions being performed. There are no real statistics showing whether the abortions were absolutely necessary or not. Within the financial Year 2009-2010 yearly report PPFA’s net assets on the period ending 30th June, 2010 were in excess of  $1 billion, in particular $1,009,600,000.00

Marjorie Dannenfelser, the leader of the Susan B. Anthony List, a renowned pro-life group that pressures Congress to end Planned Parenthood funding, named the association an “abortion giant. Dannenfelser stated that with excess of a billion in assets, a big business model based on abortion, and state subsidies, the Planned Parenthood operations ought to be brought to an end coupled with its dependence on taxpayer dollars. In spite of an unprecedented attempts by nationwide and federal leaders to stop its funding, a big number of former staff are willing to give evidence against PPF, and a common agreement within Republican presidential candidates lobbying for its defunding, Planned Parenthood continue to face full-steam in future (Cnsnews, 2014).

As documented previously by CNSNews.com, a representative with Planned Parenthood shared with Bloomberg’s Business week in 2013 that over 90 percent of state funding the group originates from Medicaid or from the central government. Awarding taxpayers’ money to groups that promote and perform abortion, whether the money is not utilized for those purposes, frees up additional financing for abortion reasons and shows the state’s stamp of endorsement to abortion and the related activities.

Through financing Planned Parenthood and other groups, the state willingly approves an abortion group and all they do. When taxpayers’ finances are directed to abortion groups for whichever reason, it endorses the acts of the abortion business. We must not allow abortion businesses to gain financially from taxpayers’ money (Lifenews, 2010).

As a result of these findings I suggest a stop to funding abortion related groups and prior to that there should be increased inspection into their activities. These activities are in violation of state sexual violence laws and parental laws. During the present economic disaster, it is insensible of the US Government to maintain financing abortions using taxpayer dollars.
