The aim of this book is to enlighten the reader of the past of Haiti. This has been achieved with masterful crafting of words and factual depiction of the country.

The author is actually a Haitian. His pride and love for the country shines through his beautiful descriptions of the country. The reader is able to experience the pain through his words. This book has been written with a lot of varying emotions between the lines. It is vivid and informative. The flow of prose is almost perfect. There are some paintings included in the book. These work to fully immerse the reader into a historical experience.
