Bradley Tompkins was one of the children who underwent the screening test. As shown by the development checklist, the child had various difficulties when it came to language development. Some of them included not being able to recall parts of a story, failing to speak 5-word sentences and finding it hard to use future tense. For this reason, I would wish to develop an early childhood classroom that focusses on activities that will encourage language and speech development in early childhood. Such a classroom will be meant for children between the ages of 4 to 6 years.
The learning center will be geared to bettering the conversations skills of children. This will be done by encouraging children to start conversations more often by paying attention to what they have to say (Colmar, 2014). Furthermore, the teacher will acknowledge and encourage all attempts of speaking in the center. Pausing after speaking will give the children a chance of continuing with conversations. In addition to all these, the building of vocabulary will also be done through introducing of new words and offering their definitions in a humorous manner (Foster-Cohen, 2014).
To further the language development of the children, the learning center will be well furnished with tables, chairs, charts and other classroom necessities. Such paraphernalia may be used in creating familiarity of the young minds with commonly used names. This may be done through asking the children to identify and describe the furnishings in the room in terms of size, shape, weight, color and texture (Mulrine & Kollia, 2015).
For further learning, the television can be a valuable tool. The children will be asked to talk about what they have watched or asked to guess what will happen next. They will also be provided with an opportunity to talk about their favorite characters and what happened at the end of the story (Mulrine & Kollia, 2015). All these will be in an effort of aiding their young minds to achieve various the language milestones.
