A Teacher-Designed Assessment Test

Teacher-designed assessments play a crucial role in understanding children. However, it is important for the tests to be tailored according to the way the preschool children learn (Wortham, 2012). For my tests, I wish to assess Bradley Tompkins, a child who is between the ages of 4 and 5 years.  My assessment will be designed to test his Science knowledge and skills.

In this domain, I would wish to achieve several objectives. Firstly, I would want to see how well the child can gather and organize information about the physical and natural world.  In addition to this, I aim at providing Bradley with an opportunity of learning more vocabularies in an effort of increasing his scientific knowledge. Lastly, I hope the test will motivate him to learn and foster curiosity in his young mind (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2010).

In the assessment, I will employ a paper-and-pencil test, providing pictorial clues that will help the child to give the correct response. The test involves circling and drawing a line to the correct response. It will comprise of various pictures that are aligned on both the right and left hand sides. On the right-hand side, the pictures will be of animals while on the left-hand-side, they will consist of various foods  (Wortham, 2012). As I name an animal, Bradley will be expected to show the named animal using a circle and then match it with the food that it takes using a line.

At the beginning of the assessment, I will provide the child with an example. Afterwards, I will explain to him what he is required to do. This will be done by going through the written instructions to ensure that he has understood them.
