American Indians Voting

This article calls for the American Indians to fully participate in this year’s elections.

The article states that this is the Native voters’ year and that there exist enough time to make the year 2014 the Native voter’s evolution year. Therefore, this means if Indian Country gets prepared, and a folk in reality vote, then the influence of that Native vote will be amplified.

However, that needs to follow through on two steps, planning (including money) followed by the actual voting. The author observes that during the last election attendance by Alaska Natives ranged from a little 25 percent up to about 71 percent. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that American Indians were primary contributors to coalitions that won in Wisconsin, Montana and North Dakota two years back and there exists a prospective to accomplish more (Calloway 2012, 22).

The author notes that there is already greatly highly profiled candidates running the 2014 office as compared to any other previous election. For instance, in Washington state, previous Colville tribal chairperson Joe Pakootas is on the race beside Rep. McMorris-Rodgers. For American Indians voice to be heard the candidature of Byron Mallott towards Alaska governorship has to be placed at the top of the list.

The National Congress of American Indians statement calls for increased voter listing at Indian health amenities. The author notes that this is the ideal solution towards the 2014 election. People should be encouraged to register for voting and health insurance simultaneously (TRAHANT 2014, 2).  Alaska Natives would have a larger allocation of the electorate compared to other states. Alaska Natives can the main community that chooses governors, federal representatives, senators, and majorly deciding the state’s future.
