Children’s Theatre is a mix form of theatre that includes a mixture of styles. The form of a Children’s Theatre show is a mixture of many styles working together to generate Dramatic Meaning. A fairy tale is a traditional story written specifically for children that usually involves imaginary creatures/characters and some sort of magic. My example of a fairy tale is Cinderella; the story is about a young, sweet-tempered girl. Her wicked stepmother and stepsisters disliked her a lot and did not let her go to a ball, however, Cinderella’s fairy godmother made it possible for her to attend with magic. She danced with the prince and they fell in love instantly. Since she had to leave by midnight, she ran and lost one shoe. The prince found the shoe and searched for her and when he found her, they got married and lived happily ever after. This would be appropriate for a children’s audience because they are more likely familiar with the story and like it as most kids do.
The moral behind the story is not to treat people badly which will teach the children the same concept. A myth is a popular story which was made up in the past to explain natural events or to justify religious beliefs or a social phenomenon. My example of a myth is the most recognized symbol of love, Cupid. Once upon a time, there was girl named Psyche, men would go and look to see her but no one wanted to marry her. Aphrodite, the god of beauty, was so upset that the people weren’t worshiping her that she asked her son Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with the most hideous creature. Cupid looked at the girl and fell in love with Psyche at first sight. One day, a voice told her that her family is coming up to the mountain to visit her. She begged the voice to let her see them. The voice agreed but told her that there’s a consequence for doing so. When she met them, she filled her three sisters with jealousy. So much envy that they plotted for a way to have her lose everything. Psyche did what they told her and found out that the person she loved and the voice was Cupid. Cupid was highly angered by this and left her. Cupid finally went to find Psyche after he realized he still loved her and once he found her, he went to the gods and asked them to give Psyche immortality and to formally marry them.
In the end, they got married, stayed in Olympus and Aphrodite got over her jealousy. This would be appropriate for a children’s audience because it transmits a moral message which is ‘Don’t love someone from just on the outside because it is what’s on the inside that matters. ’A legend very old story or set of stories from ancient times that people tell about a famous event or person. My example of a legend is Robin Hood. Long ago, in England in Sherwood Forest lived Robin Hood. As a boy Robin had been cheated by a few noblemen and since then he had decided that he would not spare the rich. He would rob the rich and give to the poor. This story is suitable for children because it is entertaining and would make them interested. A fable is a short tale to teach a moral lesson, often with animals or inanimate objects as characters. An example a fable is ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’. A shepherd-boy, who watched a flock of sheep near a village, brought out the villagers three or four times by crying out, “Wolf! Wolf!” and when his neighbors came to help him, laughed at them for their pains. The Wolf, however, did truly come at last. The Shepherd-boy, now really alarmed, shouted in an agony of terror: “Pray, do come and help me; the Wolf is killing the sheep”; but no one paid any attention to him this time, nor offered any assistance. The Wolf, having no cause of fear, at his leisure lacerated or destroyed the whole flock. This would be suitable for children because it will not just entertain them but also educate and teach them to be truthful and not to fool their friends. Children literature is books for children from birth to adolescence, covering wide topics of interests to children of those particular ages, through genres such as fiction, nonfiction, etc. A popular example of a children’s literature book is Charlie’s Chocolate Factory.
