Andrew Jackson the President of the People

Andrew Jackson was born in 1767 along the border between South and North
Carolina; he experienced America war of independence to be a brutal civil war. He was the
only member in his family to survive ill-treatment of British officers who imprisoned them
near Charleston. He moved to Nashville where he established himself as a planter, lawyer,
militia officer and politician and married Rachel Donelson. He was a national hero due to
exploits during 1812 war especially the victory of British Army at New Orleans in 1815
January. He was denied the presidency in 1825 by the House of Representatives despite his
victory in popular votes, after four years later, he claimed the White House on a surge of
highly organized support.
Some Americans wanted President Jackson dead while others thought of him as a
second father, there were ambushes and assassinations against him. To some people he was
ruling as a tribune of the people while others viewed him as a dangerous ruler worth to be
killed. For Jackson, personal loyalty was a supreme law, he valued his family and friends the
same way he idolized Union as mystical structure that allowed individuals to go their own
ways and become somebody. His enemies -Henry Clay, Adams, Calhoun- were reprehensible
believing they were better than Eaton and Jackson and they would destroy the union for their
personal ambitions.

His work was dominated by God and war as from childhood; he was taken o Waxhaw
Presbyterian every week and grew spiritually. He was engaged in constant brawl from birth
and he could not stand to lose points or ground even for a moment and used wrestling as his
common past time. He has seethed beneath the surface, for when frustrated or crossed, he
worked himself in to fits of rage, and his prospects were not auspicious. He was an insecure,
unbalanced, excitable and defensive as a child coming from violence and confrontation
culture. Jackson learnt to solve complicated issues at childhood by maintaining cheerful face
to people who hosted him.
He was known to echo scriptures both in his letters and speeches and the bible formed
his mind’s habit whereby he read three chapters of the bible daily. The caricatures suggests
that he was unlettered but it is seen, he was no scholar but he issued proclamations like
Caesar to his troops, and he read more than he was accredited for. He worked his way in to
nascent America gentry by using his charm that exploited all men he came across to. He lived
with Rachel as his wife while she was still married to Robards, where they lived in adultery
to provoke divorce from Robards. He is one president who was born from a native
community, financially unfortunate and an orphan, but irrespective of that he walked through
the ladder to be the 7 th American president.
He was a significant president and a battle-hardened warrior founder of the architect
of the presidency with a story of courage, sex, tragedy and violence. With his evident
bravery, mystical connection to people and powerful persona, he was able to move to the
White House from the periphery of government to the nation action centre articulating a
vision of change which challenged entrenched interests that heed popular will and face
formidable wrath.

He was the most contradictory of all men, the architect of Indians removal from their
native lands. He was sentimental and risked everything to ensure more power to ordinary
citizens. He was a lot like his country, alternately vicious and kind, brilliant and blind, and he
fought lifelong war in keeping the republic safe no matter what it takes. Beloved and hated,
reviled and venerated, Andrew fought his way to power pinnacle and bended the nation to his
will in democracy cause. In 1828 election, it ushered lasting and new era where people, not
distant elites became guiding force in American politics.
He gave hopes to the restless and changed nation facing challenges at homes and
threats abroad. Jackson believed in the America’s first principle ‘the majority is to govern’
which was a connection between the president and the people. This was due to his defeat in
1825, fear of the bank, distrust of entrenched officeholders and he believed America was
controlled by congressional-financial-bureaucratic complex where the concerns and the needs
of the unconnected were secondary to those who were inside. For generations, Jackson has
been thought to be a quintessential man of the people, a person who was uncomfortable with
mob rule. This does not disservice him as he believed in virtue, in forbearance, in order, in
securing the nation and its people; not just from foreign foes but also from disruptive winds
of their passion.
Jackson had firm state rights ideas that included; debt free nation, belief of limited
federal government, and a country where the people act through state, and made larger
important decision on public affairs. Nullification theory cloaked in the republican virtue
garb and gave southern states that were unhappy means and occasions to cast their lot with
South Carolina. His greatest threat was Virginia a divided state where James madison its
leader insisted that nullification was not constitutional. Jackson worked with his close friends
and his family these were the linkages and connections that raised many close people to the

high positions in government. He was known to use Rachel’s memory in his darkest moment
when his soldiers were asleep.
Jackson’s first speech in his second term was not a policies tangle from personal
prejudices on accidental side effects, but a deliberate abandonment of federal powers. When
utilizing strict controls on its economy, British Empire insisted free trade on other nations to
assure global dominance. On first Revolutionary War and assigned treaty of Paris and the
constitution was created in ensuring power break from the colonial model and it was
successfully implemented. Jackson claimed judicial power, wrongs done by the corporation

question was if liberty and union would be or cease to be.
Andrew Jackson was the first self-raised president in America, who helped the
common man and felt the government helped the rich people. He made America to be proud
of him as a hero in the Orleans battle, took part in revolutionary war and felt the American
bank supported just the rich. He did not like the nullification idea that meant that the state

does not follow federal government and he sent the u’s army when south Carolina threatened
to attack. He was a strong leader and led to the great expansion of presidential powers. Due to
his firmness, civil war was postponed for thirty years where it prevented South Carolina to
dissolve the union.
Jackson also had contradictory features when he violated the first amendment and
illegal mail through ordering a postmaster to stop delivery of anti-slavery literature in the
South. He led to the promotion of slavery by removing Indians from their lands to get cotton
land for the whites. He also executed two British leaders while in Florida which was against
the military orders. He was stubborn and self-willed and he was led by himself, nothing
would pull him back. He was selfish and run the country ignoring two government branches,
if he did not like a bill or a law he would ignore it.
Jackson political and private lives have both been used with his character
complexities and public life consequences invites fresh scrutiny. He has been viewed as a
figure so brilliant but bloody minded, so cold yet so tender, and the vices and virtues talk
about America. There was a sense of completion following his death that race had been
finished and he felt his mission was completed. Even after his death, Jackson has remained as
a courageous man who would do anything and everything for his great family ‘America’.
