The authors describe the influence of environmental toxicants to children’s health. They highlight five central elements that are required in developing a child-protective approach of risk assessment. The five elements are an improved quantitative assessment of a child’s exposure at different stages of life, development of new approaches for chemical toxicity testing of anticipated life, development of new toxikinetic and toxicodynamic models, and development of new approaches that assess the outcome and application of safety and uncertainty factors in risk assessment. Using content analysis, the authors compare different risk management and assessment approaches. The authors present enhanced protection during children’s vulnerable development periods with a 10-fold child-protective safety factor in risk assessment. The results demonstrated that protecting a child from environmental toxic chemicals is important for human species’ sustainability.

The research question of the article is significant and well framed with the authors relating it to the body. The study involves only secondary information which may not be reliable as it is not first-hand. However, it quotes major provisions in Food Quality Act (FQA) of 1996 which is a reliable source. A different research methodology would have been used to obtain both primary and secondary information for better analysis. However, its conclusion is justified by the results as it states the importance of protecting a child from environmental toxic chemicals.

This research is differential from others since it is recent. This source can be used as a baseline for my future research as it contains useful information and statistics. The risk and protective assessment that are discussed are useful and can be used in the protection of children from environmental toxic chemicals. The study has highlighted guidelines on the proposed level of exposure to toxicology.

Fortier, Mitchelle, Wahi, Aditi, Bruce, & Korter, et al. (2014). Pain management at home in children with cancer: A daily diary study. Proquest, 61(6), 1029-33. Retrieved from http://search.proquest.com/docview/1516399899/7A8E952CE3EC440CPQ/8?accountid=130085

Fortier et al. (2014) explain the importance of managing pain at home for children with cancer. The authors’ recruited Parent-child combinations from the Cancer Institute to conduct the study. The observational method was used in collecting data. The purpose of the study was the application of daily diary protocol in examining pain management barriers of children’s cancer pain by parents at home. The results demonstrated that it is important to understand and address children’s cancer pain management in relieving cancer pains in a home setting.

The research question was significant as it was used in observation and analysis and reviewed in the results. The authors used an appropriate research methods and  but their sample size was small thus creating biasness. There are similar researches where the same data can be retrieved. The conclusion is justified by the result as the number of patient with chronic cancer pains is high and only a few who are administered with analgesics. The study contains a wide range of sources to back up the findings of its authors hence making the article reliable.

This study is different from others in the same field as it uses a small sample size. However, a lot of background information on the problem and adequate exploration of the topic are used to improve the reliability of this source. Moreover, this article contains some information that is applicable worldwide as cancer in children is common worldwide. This article can act as a baseline for future research and is applicable in my field as it will help me eliminate the gap between cancer patients and analgesics use. This study has helped in insisting the need to increase analgesic use at home to control pain among cancer patients.
