Anxiety as a genetic disorder

Anxiety cannot be considered a genetic or non-genetic disorder for various reasons. One of the reasons why it cannot be expressly termed as a genetic disorder is because it cannot be diagnosed from lab tests. It is for this reason that the causes are assumed to be genetic and environmental at the same time (Bhandari, 2017). The environment in which a child grows may cause the development of anxiety. This can develop when one person with anxiety in form of phobia for darkness brings up a child under the conditions where they do not stay in dark rooms. The child will grow up with a phobia for darkness as well. This is an environmental factor that causes the development of a phobia in an individual. These anxiety disorders can be prevented once the patient is aware of their problem and they find a way of dealing with it without passing it to the people around them.

Steps taken to prevent anxiety

Preventing anxiety can be done by the people at risk being aware of the stress factors in their lives. This will go a long way in ensuring that the individual does not develop anxiety attacks as early as possible. This means that the individual will engage in activities that help to reduce stress significantly. The prevention measures include; regular exercises, enough rest and meditation among other relaxation activities (Oxford Medicine Online, 2018). It is important for an individual who is at risk of developing anxiety to know how stress can affect them. This will ensure that they can effectively avoid stress situations. Parents and guardians should also be aware of their anxiety so that they avoid passing their own fears to their children. Avoidance of stressful situations should be the best prevention for developing anxiety disorders.
