                                                               Introduction

Essay development is a way to enhance our writing quality. There are many ways of essay development, but in this paper I would include four of them which are description, narration, exemplification and process writing. All these four types of essay development ways are written in four parts of this paper.

Part 1: Descriptive

I purchased a smartphone:

Let me describe my new smartphone. I just purchased my first smartphone. It is a Samsung Galaxy A3 phone and isn’t it just the most amazing phone ever? The phone features all the latest that technology has to offer, the latest android operating system, 2GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal space. It is black in color and measures an even five inches in size. Apart from that, it is quite thin and lightweight. The phone also comes with an eight megapixel rear-facing camera accompanied by an LED flashlight and a five megapixel front-facing camera. One interesting feature that it has is that, if you want to power it up quickly, all you have to do is to double tap the top surface and you will have it on in a matter of seconds. It also features a capacitative touch interface that makes it more interactive, enabling operation with even the slightest gestures. To give it a personal touch, I got it laminated with black and blue lamination paper with the symbol of an A on its back cover. That way, it has the feel of being all mine.

      Part 2: Narrative

Day when I got my first smartphone:

The day I got my first phone was a very exciting day indeed. It was on my 18^th birthday that my father asked me to come for a ride with him. I had no idea where we were headed, but I was soon to learn. My father took me to his friend’s phone showroom, and to say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. I had been begging him for a phone for a while, and was even ready to settle for a second-hand or used smartphone. So being taken to the phone showroom and gifted a brand new phone was a real delight. We went into the showroom. Brand new smartphones in glass display cases lined the shop from wall to wall. Each phone’s marketing material boasted about its advanced features and new technology, with each phone being made into an attractive package. The sheer range of available options was exciting, and the idea of owning one of the gadgets thrilled me to no end. While there were many expensive smartphones on display that morning, and my instincts were to go for the most expensive phone I could find, I had to consider my father’s budget. My dad urged me on, saying, “Hey, choose your friend buddy.” What he actually meant was that I should choose my new smartphone, describing it as my friend. In the end, I settled for a Samsung galaxy A3, which came in my favorite color black. The phone featured some of the most recent technology with a lots of features, it was actually a dream come true for me. My father had a talk with the dealer, during which they had a discussion and came to an understanding on the mode of payment. After what seemed like forever, which in actuality was just over half an hour, they formalized the arrangement and I could have my phone for the first time. My new smartphone was so sleek and smooth; it was like I was touching Swiss butter. More than anything, I was happy because I could now join and be an active participant in all the social media sites I wanted to. I was so happy my first smartphone.

      Part 3: Exemplification

I love black color:

Whenever I purchase anything new, I prefer buying it in black. Last month I purchased a car which was black in color. While there were many other available colors, I preferred buying the black car even though it came at a premium price. Recently, I purchased mobile phone which came in black as well. In general, I prefer wearing black clothes. Even my preferred choice of writing color is black, I always use black ink to write and I prefer to use black font color when typing. Black is indeed a popular color choice around the world, as a large number of people seem to prefer black. I also have quite a number of items that are black in color, from my television, to my computer and my car. Even my lucky clothes are black. Black as a color helps me feel that an article is truly mine; it makes me comfortable with the article. Just last week I went to the shoe shop to purchase a new pair of shoes, and they were black as well. The shoes were very appealing, but before I could get to them, some other person got to them just before I did. Since they were the last pair, we had a little tussle over them, and eventually I managed to wrest them from his grasp and carried them off to the counter to pay for them. Maybe he felt cheated or something because he went to the store manager to complain, but by then I had already paid for the pair and wit as already being packaged. While this might seem like a small victory, I was ecstatic like I had won a war.

Part 4: Process

My fitness schedule

To remain fit I take part in various activities which include exercise. I do many exercises to look healthy and stay fit. First of all I do some warm-up exercises for around 15 minutes or so, since warm-up exercises get blood flowing into the muscles. This serves to prevent any muscle related complications that may result from jumping right into exercises when the muscles are not ready for the exertion yet. After the warm-up session, the second thing I do is a brief meditation session, after which I begin the exercising in earnest. The first exercise I engage in is push-ups. During a normal session, I do between fifty and sixty push-ups, then twenty to thirty sit-ups. Then, I take a five minute break, after which I begin my weight training exercises. In weight training, I normally do twenty repeats on each arm with the ten kilogram dumb-bell. After arm training, I then proceed to do shoulder exercises, starting with my front shoulder, then to my side shoulder, and finally my back shoulders. Following the shoulder exercises, I do thirty repeats on the bench press, making certain not to take on too much weight. Presently, I take between thirty and forty kilogram weights on the bench press. After this exercise, I take a ten minute break, during which time I take some energy drink to reenergize myself while getting ready for the next exercise. After the break I do a couple of pull-ups, normally twenty to thirty repeats. Finally, I do some running exercise on my treadmill so that I can have a gentle “come-down” from the previous period of intense activity. I usually run for about five kilometers during the exercise. All these exercises serve to keep me fit and help me to remain refreshed all day long. This exercise schedule is my fitness secret, and I do it daily.
