BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR

This course has been a great course for me. It has been a great class as it made me associate with just the people I wanted to associate with. These are the great innovators that have moved the world to the level it is. Even better, I realized that their works were not necessitated by a stroke of genius but by the very simple qualities we all possess. They are opportunists and they maximize every opportunity they identify.

First, I realized that small ideas are never small at all. They are ideas that could be implanted into other projects to make them perfect. A good example is Steve Job’s idea that computers should be small and quiet. Many people may have thought about how noisy a computer sometimes got. However, Steve went a step further and explored for means of how it could be done. This discovery made me discover, not only how innovative I am, but also how far better I can get.

Another thing I learned is that I am not good at borrowing ideas and solutions. Most of the ideas that Steve Jobs capitalizes on are not completely independent. He sometimes identifies ideas that are being underused and works to improve on them. He also goes out of his way once he knows what he wants to get someone who can give it to him in good terms.

Thirdly, I learned that any form of knowledge however diverse can be important in solving a problem. A course in calligraphy comes in handy in Jobs’ development of the Mac. There should not, therefore, be bounds as to what entrepreneurs should be eager to learn. Entrepreneurs could even enroll into courses in the course of a project development. This therefore undermines specialization for me as an entrepreneur. Specialization limits the potential of an entrepreneur to identify and make good use of his opportunities.

As an entrepreneur, I also noted what my weaknesses are. I have always been very good at identifying opportunities. I often do this by questioning situations as they are and by observing what others do to solve their situations. My biggest problems arise when I want looking for viable reasonable solutions for the problems in the field. When this step comes, I always run from the responsibility of looking for the best people to work with and from the experimental work. I also lack the courage to make products for which I don’t have a sure market and introduce them to the market (Entrepreneurial Skills Needed For Successful Entrepreneurs’ 237).

In that regard, I need to develop my experimenting and networking skills so as to be a better innovator and entrepreneur. To do that, I have figured that the best way do this would be to make timelines for new projects. While I have always concentrated in doing things that I am sure will work, I will go out of my way and develop new ideas without regard for whether they will be exemplary or not. If they are not, I will learn from them and make improvements where necessary or drop them altogether. It is hardly realistic for an entrepreneur to expect to make the very first product exemplary. However, with the first, product, I can always become a better entrepreneur by improving on the products I already have in the market. Furthermore, new ideas often reap better profits than copied ventures (Dyer, Hal, and Christensen 12).

The course has also shown me how to improve on my innovation skills. There are various methods that I have identified which would be beneficial towards making me a better innovator. First, I need to accept to get my hands dirty. I need to be part of the projects that I propose. This way, I will always be able to identify problems with my product when they arise and know how best to improve them.

Second, I have always admired big entrepreneurial minds like Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos and Pierre Omidyar. I have never however considered learning from what they did to become a better entrepreneur myself. This work has however made me realize how much better I can get by simply looking at other innovative ideas. Often, this will also give me a chance to realize how simple good ideas often are (Bilan, et al., 237).

In the future I will also be able to make networks with people who can be beneficial to my ventures. This way, I will know who to turn to in case I need a hand in a certain field where I am not well versed. These people are also likely to involve me in their ideas hence making me a better entrepreneur.

In conclusion, the course has been instrumental in my self discovery as an entrepreneur. It has helped me to identify entrepreneurial traits that I already possess and those that I lack and need to work on. By studying, the course has made me more confident by making my ideas look valid compared to those of other entrepreneurial individuals. It has also enabled me to see the need for association with other authorities.
