The term “worldview” is comprehensive, meaning it affects every part of life, from politics to art, from money to morality. Therefore, the Christian worldview (others refer to it as a biblical worldview) is a framework of beliefs and ideas through which Christians interpret and interact with the world. As a result, the Christian worldview perceives true Christianity to be more than the set of ideas used in churches (Paul, 2017). Moreover, the Bible also refers to Christianity as a worldview. The Bible does not recognize a secular lifestyle but only a religious lifestyle (Stella, 2015). Jesus proclaimed to be “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6), and this is a Christian worldview. Below are Christian worldviews in different aspects of human life.

  1. The Nature of Man

According to Christianity, God, through an intelligent power, created the universe with love. The creation is purposeful and not arbitrary; hence, the world is good fundamentally and not morally neutral (Norskov, 2018). All the creation including man is intrinsically valuable. From the beginning, God wanted His creation to enjoy perfect love and justice, and this is reflected in the purpose or design of the creation (Stella, 2015). God created man following His divine image, and in a way, they can at least understand God and other creations. The purpose of human existence is to love and serve Him for the sake of bringing about His glorious plans of creating the Universe (Jaroslaw, 2014). God bestowed man with the gift of reasoning, which helps man reflect on his nature and conciseness. As a result, man has used the gift bestowed to him to derive the purpose of God’s creation. 

  1. Morality, Character, and Virtue

Christians always get themselves in situations that require them to make rightful decisions. Sometimes, making these decisions requires Christians to consider other factors besides Catechism or the Ten Commandments. In this case, they could be a need to consider other tools like moral theology, which is about character, virtues, as well as Gospel values (Jaroslaw, 2014). According to the word of God, leading a moral life that brings man closer to God and others is one of the substantial parts of Christianity (Norskov, 2018). Community and practice participation is the right way of making sure humans are doing the right thing out of every situation. Christian worldview includes Christian values, stories, and images about the way people perceive the world and the imaginations of how it could be (Jaroslaw, 2014). The Christian community has to provide role models, common values, and accountability (Jaroslaw, 2014). These ensure morality and at the same time, strengthens character besides the practice of moral discernment. When it comes to virtues, there are aspects of human character that incline towards morality. Virtues prepare humans before facing moral decisions. 

  1. Gender and Sexuality

God wonderfully and immutably created humans as male and female. The male and female genders are distinct and complementary, reflecting both the nature and image of God (Jakobus, n.d.). Therefore, when a person rejects his or her biological sex, it means he or she is rejecting the image of God within them (Genesis 1:26-27). Marriage unites a man and a woman together, making them one flesh (Genesis 2:18-25). God is against sexual intimacy between unmarried people (Hebrew 13:4; 1 Corinthians 6:28; 7:2-5). Therefore, it is a sin when there is sexual intimacy between unmarried individuals (Penner, 2016). However, sexual immorality also includes fornication, homosexuality, incest, bestiality, bisexual conduct, as well as viewing of pornography (Jakobus, n.d.). Indulging in these immoral sexual behaviors is a sin and offenses to God.

  1. Family

Christian worldview believes that God is the originator of family and holds unto it patently. From the beginning of humanity, a man and a woman leave their parents and come together both physically and spiritually, forming a one-lifetime union, giving birth, and raising children (Genesis 1:27–28; 2:18, 21–25). However, this model is somehow inconsistent in the Scriptures, and the daily lives of people due to single parenthood, marriages without children, grandparents assuming the role of parents, and others that form a considerable percentage of Christian families (Penner, 2016). Fortunately, God blesses these types of families, which others consider them as relationships and not families, as they do not meet the kind of family described in the book of Genesis (Jakobus, n.d.). Therefore, Christianity views family, as a group of people related by marriage, birth, or adoption.

  1. Culture

There are three different views on the relationship between Christianity and culture: Christianity against culture, Christianity of culture, and Christianity in and for culture. There are many occasions where Christianity and culture found themselves as two different opposing forces of influence (Paul, 2017). As a result, the church finds itself criticizing the culture. However, Christianity also supports culture when it reflects the teachings of the Bible, especially when the culture does not raise Idols in place of God (Paul, 2017). In the third relationship between Christian worldview and culture, human beings represent Christ by living in the midst of and for the better of the context of their cultural, in which their obedience and witness characterize their cultural lives.

  1. Suffering

It seems senseless to many on how a loving God allows suffering to His creation, particularly man. The Bible also confirms God’s love towards His creation, but at the same time, confirms the stark realities of suffering (Cristaudo, 2015; Webb, 2014). Christianity views the fall of man at the dawn of creation as the ultimate source of suffering as they chose to disobey God (Genesis 2:16–17; 3:6). However, there is salvation through Jesus Christ, who died for human sins and gave hope to anyone who believes in Him (John 3:16–18). However, Christianity also views suffering not as a good thing and not as a bad thing as it brings human beings closer to God. The story of Job is a typical example of how God redeems man and uses suffering for a good purpose.

  1. The purpose and meaning of life

Based on the Bible, the purpose of human life is to glorify God. Therefore, this means that the purpose of human existence is to praise and worship Him, proclaim His greatness, as well as accomplish His will (Norskov, 2018). God created man as per His desires; thus, man has to live for Him so that he can accomplish what God expects of him (Jaroslaw, 2014). When a man trusts in God, who works as per the counsel of His will (Ephesians 1:11), then man can live a life of purpose. 

My initial thoughts of what makes a Christian psychology Christian

Christian psychology is a special kind of psychology seeking to develop distinct Christian models that understand the human condition. The idea behind Christian psychology already makes it Christian. Psychology represents one of the many ways Christians have tried to associate Christianity with psychology (Stella, 2015). However, Christian psychology does not describe an established Christian system when it comes to psychological understanding as it represents a loose movement on Christian philosophers, theologians, counselors, and psychologists (Zuhal, 2016). Therefore, when Christian psychologists talk about developing a unique Christian psychology, it means a comprehensive understanding of human nature from a Christian perspective (Sytner, 2018). Based on the counseling theory, a commitment to ecumenism and struggles to interpret the Biblical texts accurately and apply them, plagues Christian psychology. 

Christian counseling according to the biblical and theological foundation

Counseling in both a Christian way and a secular way has the same agenda of helping people with their problems (Zuhal, 2016). The difference between the two is that Christian counseling goes further to incorporate Biblical truths and spiritually demons besides seeking the will of God in the person’s life (Stella, 2015). Christian counselors consider the Bible as their reference because of the practical wisdom regarding the nature of humans, human suffering, marriage and family, and other related things covered in it. The use of the Bible in Christian counseling often provide specific directions and accountability (Sytner, 2018). According to Proverbs 11:14, “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors, there is safety.” In this case, God gives some guidance to the benefit of counseling. 


From the above discussion, the Christian worldview is about viewing the world comprehensively as per the teachings of the Bible. As a result, the view of the world from a Christian perspective ought to be integrated wholly and include several distinct and biblical elements. Hence, it calls for Christians to filter their lives through spiritual or biblical lenses and see the world full of harmonious beliefs and perspectives. In this case, it associates Christianity with psychology and philosophy besides, other aspects of life revolving around sociology, law, ethics, politics, economy, and science. The relationship between Christianity and psychology resulted in Christian psychology, which is now an essential part of Christians as it helps them live better according to the will of God.
