BLACKOUT

We live in an era of advanced technology whereby almost all our aspects of our lives are related to the science of craft. Technological advances have led to the creation of useful resources that made the lives of human beings more comfortable. Today, there exist different gadgets connected to the internet and have changed the way individuals carry out their daily activities. Some of the technologies that I was aware of and were not there in the past include mobile phones, computers, laptops, refrigerators, electric cookers, electric iron boxes, televisions, airplanes, and electricity among other things. These developments, for example, mobile phones, have made communication faster and reliable.  Technology has improved people’s housing and lifestyle, made health care delivery more efficient, promoted education, and traveling has also become more convenient.

I gave up my laptop during my blackout period, and I struggled through the day. I use the laptop for almost all the activities in my life. I use it to watch movies, listen to music, and play games. I also use it for work since I run some online business on a part-time basis, and I use mails as the primary medium of communication between clients and the company I represent. Most importantly, I use it for studies in accessing the online library and engaging in online group discussions. I missed playing cards the most since I have installed some game of cards app in it, which I play to refresh whenever I feel tired before resuming my regular duties.

The absence of the devices made the house boring as I had challenged my family to try it and picture our lives in the 17th century. Staying with no television and music and with no one touching their phones except for urgent calls only was very difficult. However, I got a chance away from my laptop and held face to face talks with friends who we only met through social media.   By evening, I was eager to re-unite with my laptop, and I learned how crucial technology is in my life.
