BUSI 314 Employment Law For Business : Solution Essays

Question:

Critical thinking implies that one dissects information that is given, then discerns what they have read, viewed, heard, etc.  It is disciplined thinking that is open-minded, clear and rational.  It is thinking that does not merely base its answers or responses on opinion, but seeks out information, data and evidence.

With that being said, students are expected to:

1. Read at least two additional articles, books, etc. (in addition to their required reading) to find data that supports their findings.
2. Be able to explain their reasoning and support it with proven information and/or data evidence.
3. Should be able to avoid “group think”, the act of not thinking independently, but conforming to peers rather than approaching information from a different perspective.

Answer:

Introductiom:

Prejudice is a prejudgment or preconceived opinion of another person based on a person’s own experience or on reason. Some prejudices are negative while others are positive. Some have racist outcomes because they are racial in nature. However, not all forms of prejudice are racial in nature.  On the other hand, racism is a form of prejudice which is directed by someone of a different race on the belief that their race is superior (Hannum,Park, & Butler2010).

How can prejudice find its way into the workplace?

The modern work place has people from various backgrounds.  These differences maybe on racial, social and cultural backgrounds, where you find that employees do not have much in common except that they work together , because of the differences, most of the employees will not get along. Thus, some end up treating others unfairly or differently.

What is the difference between race and color?

Race is human classification based on factors like heritable phenotype and geographic ancestry. Race may also be influenced by correlated traits such as socio economic status, ethnicity, appearance and culture. Color on the other hand shows a lot of variation even on people of the same race(Hannum,Park, & Butler2010).

How can color find its way into employment discrimination?

We find that color can find its way into employment discrimination when an employer does not want to employ a person because of their skin color. For example, most blacks find it difficult to get employment compared to Caucasians.
