Implementation of EHR

Implementation of the EHR will improve clinical record collection and use by staff in the field because the new system is a ready to use, user-friendly software, requiring little training and can work on existing infrastructure without additional resources. The chosen vendor, TenEleven Group, has good testimonials from users and the product has been certified by a reputable certifying body (TenEleven Group, 2015). The proposed software is electronic clinical record that incorporates a data logging and a messaging component.

Hardware and Software Requirements

Hardware

The office requires to have a PC with at least a mouse and keyboard, for each examining room and front desk, and additionally a client server and a standard printer-scanner at the front desk. The field units require each to have either a laptop or a tablet. The system is designed to support biometric security and digital signature as well (TenEleven Group, 2015).

Software

The main operating system is either Windows 7, Windows 8, or a thin client. The eCR software is deployed in each computer or tablet. All the software must support SQL for data querying, and encryption and digital signatures for data security (TenEleven Group, 2015).

Connectivity

The system requires high speed internet connection. It also requires an internal network for data sharing and storage.

SaaS vs. In-house Installation

The system can be used on existing in-house infrastructure, including tablets, printers and scanners, internet connectivity and data encryption for added security. Infogad Laboratories has tested the system for user friendliness and ease of use, and passed the system (Infogard Laboratories, Inc., 2015). Moreover, the system can run on existing computer infrastructure with no additional hardware requirements. It is portable and can be linked to a Tablet, therefore although it the system has provision for deploying SaaS through the thin client, there is no need to implement it.

How Technology Solution Will Improve the Process

The new technology will reduce the time taken to log data from the field and enable supervisors to update billing records immediately after visit unlike before when the data took time to collate. Charts will be displayed instantly in field and on the screen, and they can be printed on the office printer. Field units will be tracked easily and quickly, therefore time will be managed better (tsm). Automated data capture, such as use of biometrics will improve security and reliability of data. The clinical staff spend less time on paper work and concentrate on patients. According to one client, data related activities have reduced by 50% (TenEleven Group, 2015).

Selection of certified EHR System

The choice of electronic Clinical Record software is well informed because the software has been upgraded from a previous version, after undergoing rigorous testing and fixing of bugs. The company TenEleven Group is well known and is certified by reputable bodies like Infogad Laboratories, Inc. (Infogard Laboratories, Inc., 2015) and Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT.
