Discussion: Reflections on Online Learning and TeachingDaudelin (1996) provides a definition of reflection that explicitly captures its relation to learning: “Reflection is the process of stepping back from an experience to ponder, carefully and persistently, its meaning to the self through the development of inferences; learning is the creation of meaning from past or current events that serves as a guide for future behavior.” (p. 39). Reflecting on your own online learning and/or teaching experiences enriches the design, instruction, and facilitation decisions you will make as an online instructor. As Simonson and Schlosser indicate in the course text reading for this week, basing your online course design in best practices and past experiences will positively influence your students’ learning experiences.In this Discussion, you will reflect on your own experiences in the online learning environment—either as a student or as an instructor.
