CENTER OF GRAVITY

In activity one, when I stand up with my back and heels against the wall, and then bend down as if trying to pick something from the ground, I am unstable and feel like I will fall over. The cause of this is that the wall prevents me from balancing my center of gravity so that it falls somewhere in the middle of my body. When my center of gravity cannot be centralized, I tend to fall over in the direction where the center of gravity is located, in this case the front.

In the second activity, it seems that women are better able to lift a chair placed about three steps from a wall and stand up. The chair does not have to be necessarily very heavy. Men, while they are likely to be more energetic, are unable to do the same. For an explanation, I feel that the center of gravity in women when bent is far closer to their bodies. This would imply that weight is not distributed equally for both men and women. Muscular bodies are evidently heavier than others. Women tend to have more weight on their lower body while men have more weight on the upper body. The extra weight could be attributed to a more muscular bust.

When they bend down, men push their center of gravity further away from their bodies than women. Introduction of a chair in the middle further decentralizes the center of gravity hence making men more likely to fall over. Women however, find that their center of gravity is still near their bodies and so they can still manage to lift the chair and stand up.
