Children’s literature : Solution Essays

1. list the genres of Children’s Literature and tell us which ones are your favorite. What could you do to improve your variety of book selections and be sure you cover all the genres throughout the year?  Please review this week’s Bible verse (“Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. “By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you this authority?” Matthew 21:23) and write a paragraph of your interpretation. Try connecting this verse to the reading this week.

2. First, discuss how children become good readers and how you can use great literature to prepare your young children for reading. Second, pick one English Language Arts Standard and give detail on how you do support or will support this standard. Last, describe the characteristics of highly effective reading teachers and what you strengths and weaknesses are as a highly effective teacher and what you will do improve. 

3. Based on the Once is Never Enough video on the importance of repeated readings and the Miss Nelson is Missing video, describe the benefits of a read-aloud and repeated readings. Summarize 1) What you learned from the education video and 2) what you saw in the Miss Nelson video regarding the using words to teach vocabulary and listening skills. Remember, vocabulary words may be higher level so for a preschool classroom, the emphasis is pronunciation, meaning, and usage rather than spelling and reading. Words may still be written to teach print concepts and phonics Reflect on the take-aways you received from viewing these videos and what you would add or change in your own classroom after watching. Please refer to reading log sample attached
