In America, the level of religious diversity is moderate as compared to other states within the globe. Even though most of the American population is Christian, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and other religious affiliations also takes a portion of the population (Ferris & Stein, 2010). Americans always seek to change their religious affiliations. Thus only fifty-six percent can maintain their association forever. Fundamentalism is one of the trends that influences the people to shift from one religion to another since it is a traditional approach that is applicable in all the forms of worship (Ferris & Stein, 2010). What is more, recently there have been claims that there is persecution of Christians in the USA. Therefore, the following paragraph discusses why there is no persecution of Christians in America.
According to Smith (2002), evangelical Christians claim that Christians in America experience discrimination. As result persecution of Christians has become of the theme of discussion in the recent talks. The orthodox argue that they are prone to suffer based on their beliefs. This topic has become a catchphrase among the conservatives within the society. They claim that this persecution has been one of the factors that enabled President Trump to win the Presidential Elections in the year 2016 unpredictably. This group of Christians believes that they are facing persecution and they are ready to do anything that will allow them to reverse the wave of oppression. For instance, they are likely to elect someone who will value their beliefs.
One of the reason is that Christianity is over-represented in America. The Christians population in the United States covers about 70 percent of the total. Additionally, there are more Christians in higher positions. For instance, in the Congress, Christians occupy 91 percent of the seats (Smith, 2002), which means that the number of Christians in the legislature is high. The Smith (2002) shows that these figures have been there since the 1960s. Moreover, the majority of the Supreme Court members are Christians. Smith (2002) adds that an atheist has never held a seat in Supreme Court. Hence, the over-representation of the Christians shows that they have higher chances and superiority within society. Thus, it is valid to suggest that in America, Christians do not face persecution as indicated in the above premise.
However, the evangelical Christians have scrapped the social contract criticisms. According to them, the rise of Moore and election of President Trump has made them get involved in an open rebellion against persecution (Smith, 2002). Evangelical Christians want their perceptions to expand beyond business and church walls and also the presidency. This group of Christians does not want their actions to be subject to any social nor legal scrutiny. Evangelical Christians believe that the legal and social scrutiny is a way of oppressing them within the society. Nevertheless, this is not true, since social scuritiny is not any form of Christian persecution.
Additionally, the way Christians conduct themselves in society makes them seem persecuted. In America today, Christians seek to change their names to secular names such as Jennifer form the common biblical names such as John and Elizabeth (Hedges, 2008). The reason why one may do this is to enable them to get hired in companies where there is discrimination based on religion. Also, it may occur in a situation where Christians tend to hide their religious identity, by claiming to be atheists. For example, one may protect his or her Christian identity so that he or she be able to purchase his or her needs such as an apartment. It may also occur in a situation where the government decides to ban Christians in the country (Hedges, 2008). Then one would suggest that there is discrimination based on religion. Hence, considering the above arguments, it is evident that there is no Christian persecution in the US since in America it is illegal to employ individuals based on religion, color, origin or race. Hence, there is no oppression of the Christians in the USA.
The purpose of this paper was to discuss the reason(s) why there is no Christians persecution in America. The above text shows that most of the America population are Christians. The number of Christians occupies seventy percent of the total population in the USA. The arguments also indicate that it is illegal to discriminate employees based on religion, color, and race. The paper further shows that Christians persecution is not available in America. The text indicates that given that most of the population in America, there are have higher chances of holding more top offices and that most of the legislatures are Christians. In the above premises, that the evangelical Christians claims that social scrutiny is a form of oppression. Furthermore, it shows cases that would prove that Christians are under persecution in the USA. Based on the above claims, it is valid to conclude that there is no Christian persecution in America.
