Concept Map and Reflection

This paper requires using material from previous units in the course. I chose our 1st Module on Memory. In the additional materials I have included the content from that Unit. I really hope that helpsLike the article summary, you should complete this assignment over approximately a two-week period, producing multiple drafts and incorporating peer feedback and group discussion in the process. It is strongly advised that you begin this assignment by the date indicated on the Course Schedule. It would be reasonable to complete the concept map in Week 8 and the reflection during Week 9 prior to the due date on the Course Schedule. PREAMBLE: Concept maps promote deep learning by having learners organize and connect the most important ideas visually, which not only enhances memory of content, but also leads to fresh perspectives of the material. Reflecting on new content is an important part of the learning process. You should review the Online Readiness Module before attempting this assignment. LEARNING OUTCOMES This assignment will enable you to • Use concept mapping as a learning strategy. • Organize and connect important concepts. • Acquire a new perspective on course content. • Develop peer review and revision skills. • Reflect on psychology in your life. STEP 1: CREATE A CONCEPT MAP. Select ONE module or assigned reading in the course that was particularly meaningful to you, and create a map of its concepts. You need not use every concept in the module (or reading), but you should try to include as many essential concepts in your map as possible. You may also connect concepts from different modules (or readings). file:///C:/Users/mhlan/AppData/Local/Temp/ 1/5 11/21/21, 5:09 PM Concept Map and Reflection (20%) Your goal is to tell a coherent story about course content visually. As such, you should be strategic in what concepts you elect to include and what concepts you omit. You should organize the concepts differently than they appear in the course content (don’t simply replicate the list of topics in the module or reading). Your concept map should be constructed on a single 8.5″ by 11″ page. You can use MS PowerPoint to construct your map, but other software applications are also permissible. It is also permitted to draw your concept map by hand and then scan it for submission. In addition to the actual concept map, you should write a short description of the concept map, explaining its logic and organization. The written component is meant to guide the reader and provide some context that will enable them to understand the concept map more clearly. As such, it should provide a global perspective rather than focus on the details of the concept map. The written portion should be about 200 words. STEP 2: SOLICIT AND IMPLEMENT FEEDBACK FROM YOUR PEERS. In order to better evaluate your own work, you will need feedback from your peers. At this point, you may want to revisit the Peer Feedback Module. Afterwards, try to solicit two other members of the class who have also read the Peer Feedback Module to give you feedback on your concept map. You should offer them the same courtesy of reviewing their concept maps. You should begin with your Peer Group, but, if your group members are unresponsive, you can solicit peer feedback from individuals outside the course. To encourage academic integrity, DO NOT post your Concept Map to the Whole Class Discussion forum. Discussions can be accessed by clicking Connect and then Discussions on the course navigation bar above. STEP 3: WRITE A 400-WORD REFLECTION. Following the creation of your concept map, you will apply what you’ve learned in the module (or reading) to your own experiences. You should write about one or two experiences. These can reflect thoughts or actions, they can reflect solitary experiences or those encountered in a relationship, they can be about you or about someone else. But they must be experiences you are comfortable sharing. file:///C:/Users/mhlan/AppData/Local/Temp/ 2/5 11/21/21, 5:09 PM Concept Map and Reflection (20%) For each experience, you will identify and describe a different psychological concept (or multiple concepts) from your map that can help provide greater insight into that experience. Each description should provide details about the experience, clearly identify and describe the concept(s) in psychology that are relevant, and explain how the concept is related to the experience. STEP 4: SOLICIT AND IMPLEMENT FEEDBACK FROM YOUR PEERS. Hopefully, by this point, you are familiar with the process and importance of peer review. You should ALWAYS offer and solicit feedback on your work! If you are comfortable sharing your reflection with your Peer Group, start there. Or, you can solicit feedback from individuals outside the course. To encourage academic integrity, DO NOT post your reflection to the Whole Class Discussion forum. Once you receive the feedback, reflect on it and decide what will make your reflection better and implement those changes. How To SUBMIT YOUR ASSIGNMENT Please note that the following instructions pertain to this specific assignment. Instructions for other assignments may differ. Now it is time to submit your work to the Concept Map and Reflection Dropbox. Submit your concept map as a PDF file.
