In society, people face various forms of conflicts. Some of the areas where people may experience disagreement include, schools, home, hospitals, and workplaces (Morrison 974). However, in many cases, people fail to resolve these issues, since they do not follow the appropriate steps. Thus, when one complies with conflict fixing steps, then he or she would be able to agree with the other partner, which will in ending the problem. I also experienced a disagreement at a workplace.
I previously worked at an organization as a human resource manager. When working at the company, I experienced a challenge with the way the company carried out its operations. In many cases, employees believe that they should carry out the assigned responsibilities in their preferred approaches. However, in this case, I did not agree with the method the company applied when assigning the workers their specific roles. However, the company did not consider the preference of the employees. The firm instead of allowing teamwork within the organization, it discouraged the employees from working together. Also, the organization did not let the workers be independent, which made them feel uncomfortable.
As a result, I needed to come up with a strategy on how to help solve the situation. Therefore, I decided to meet the manager of the company to address the concerns (Morrison 974). During the meeting, I complied with the various skills for resolving conflicts within a workplace. Thus, I needed to meet him in a location that we could not get interrupted (Morrison 974). I told the manager the primary source of conflict which was the style of operation. However, the manager did not agree and asked me to support my claim. I informed the manager that the method of process within the company discourages independence and teamwork among the employees, which makes the workers feel uncomfortable when carrying out their assigned roles. And that when the employees are not comfortable, they will not be able to work towards achieving the goals of the organization. Therefore, there was a need to adjust the situation, so that the company could be able to meet its objectives
After informing the manager of the position, I had to ask whether he agreed with my suggestion. The manager felt partially convinced with my view and asked me to be specific on areas that the company needed to adjust on so that it could be able to resolve the problem. I suggested that the firm should encourage teamwork within the workplace since it will help in creating unity among the employees and motivating them to work towards a common goal. Additionally, the company should allow the workers to make decisions on how they would want to accomplish the assigned task. Giving workers the opportunity to decide on how they wish to carry out the assigned duties makes them independent, which ensures that they are comfortable when doing their roles. We created a plan on how the company will implement these suggestions, to resolve the problem.
The company implemented a strategy that allowed teamwork and independence among the employees. The workers needed to work together in accomplishing a specific assignment. They formed groups, where they had group leaders who gave them roles that each required to do so that they could achieve particular tasks. The workers felt motivated as they were able to come together, share ideas and also others were able to get assistance from their colleagues on what they did not understand. The strategy helped in encouraging the employees to work towards achieving the objectives of the firm. Also, the organization allowed each worker to decide on how long and the method they will use in completing the assigned duties. The company gave the employees adequate time limits that they needed to deliver the outcome. Thus, no employee needed to rush or get stressed. The strategy made the employees feel comfortable, and each was able to decide on how they would deliver the assigned tasks within the time limits. Allowing the workers to make their own decisions enabled them to feel free and be able to provide the desired outcomes.
Based on the above premises, I learned that there are strategies that an individual should consider to solve the conflict in life. As a human resource manager, I was experiencing conflict with the organization regarding its style of operation. Given that I was the human resource manager I needed to come up with ways to resolve the conflict since it had an impact on the employees. From this, I learned that there are various steps that one needs to comply with to be able to resolve a disagreement. First, one needs to engage the other party in talks regarding the cause of conflict. There is a need to focus events rather than personalities during the discussion. Recognize areas of disagreement and agreement. Prioritize conflicting areas and then create a plan on how to resolve the conflict. These steps will help in solving the conflict.
