Continuous Professional Development in Organizing
Graduating after completion of a course is a great achievement to everyone. However, the
nature of skills, competencies and knowledge varies from one professional body to another to
confer with the requirements of a given training body. Graduation is an official endorsement that
a qualified individual is qualified to offer specified services the public and the society with
potentiality of facilitating constructive change in a given field of practice (Oosthuizen, 2012).
However, there has been a doubtful thought of whether professional training can provide a
curriculum that is sufficient for a professional to address the complex practices in the world in a
an enduring and a definitive sense. The same doubts have been identified as far as continuous
professional development is concerned (Vieira, 2014).
Initially, it was possible for a person to acquire initial qualification and be confident and
remaining well-informed. Attending classes, seminars, conferences, and reading journals was
perceived to be enough for a person to remain knowledgeable and up to date. In today’s dynamic
and rapidly developing social, economic and professional environments, and increased emphasis
on CPD as a prerequisite in the ongoing registration emphasizes on the importance of integrating
professional development within a given learning process and in the career development plan.
For this case, I am going to develop a CPD to link theory and practice in organizing (Jacobsen,
2006). As a result, I will provide a personal reflection on organizing for safety, organizing for
wellbeing, organizing for control, and organization for customer satisfaction.
Organizing for safety
Safety is a critical and essential element in a workplace because it directly determine he
productivity rates of employees in an organization. As a manager, I will I have to ensure that the
safety and health of workers in a priority by involving the employee Organizing for health and
CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 3
safety is a collective effort that I will be able to manage using four techniques. First of all, I will
ensure control within the organization through defining the roles of supervisors in terms of
management, leadership, accountability rewards, instruction sanctions, motivation, performance
standards and supervision. Also I will ensure that I manage the contractors effectively because
anyone who engages with them is responsible for ensuring the safety of workers and the
contactors is observed for the smooth running of the organization. Incorporating specialist advice
in a workplace is also important in the minimization of workplace-related health and safety
issues because they provide essential tips for a safe working environment. Capabilities and
training is another critical area of concern in attaining health and safety in the organization. This
is because assigning people tasks that they are capable of doing effectively minimizes the rate of
accidents on a workplace (European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, 2001).
Moreover, I will ensure that there us a cooperation between workers and their
representatives and mangers as well through involvement and consultation. Communication is
also an essential element in an organization because it is through effective communication that a
company can share its goals and objective and be cohesive in attaining the desired goals.
Therefore, I will ensure the across the organization, visible behaviors are communicated through
a written material like memos and face to face verbal communication (Nankana, 2005).
Competency is another essential factor in an organization because it determines who a person
will perform in a given assigned task through recruitment and selection, coaching, training,
avoiding complacency and incorporating advice from the specialists. Proper recruitment and
selection process is essential because it matches the correct person to a specified job and not only
increases the productivity of a worker but also reduces the chances of errors and injuries during
the daily operations. This will ensure that the health and safety of individuals is met because
CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 4
recruiting professionals and experts in their specified fields offers good guidance to other
employees with minimizes injuries and health hazards in a work place (Trades Union Congress,
2005).
Above all, as a manager, it is my responsibility to ensures that the company meets its
policy rules. Therefore, I will ensure that sufficient funds are set aside to help meet the health
and safety objective because a healthy worker means a healthy organization. I will ensure
workers and other stakeholders’ welfare are met. Also, I will provide for adequate and
appropriate training of workers through workshops and seminars to crate awareness on the health
and safety matters. Most important is that, during al; the activities in the organization, I will
make sure that workers are dressed in correct personal protective equipment s to reduce minor
and major injuries. Finally, I will set a personal example (Trades Union Congress, 2005).
Organizing for well-being
Organizational well-being is a critical element in the success of an organization. The
well-being and health of workers is important and can be achieved through ensuring cohesion
among leaders and workers in an organization. As a result, I will organize for sports and fashion
show events in the organization for this not only promotes cohesion and unity in the
organization, but also promotes health of health of works and when the workers are healthy; it
means that organizational goals will be easily met. Therefore, I will set a particular dates like
Friday evening or weekends after the normal working hours to ensure that the event achieves
maximum attendance. Also, a proper selection of the event venue will be selected for easy
accessibility for works as per their culture and beliefs (Grant, 2010).
CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 5
Proper choice of venue will require proper planning and the expenses will not be
expected to exceed the budget, therefore proper planning with the help of other managers and
departmental easers will help a achieve the set target. Moreover, the events will have to be
promoted within the organization to ensure maximum attendance. To crown the event, our
business partners will also be invited to take part in the event as this will promote internal and
external relation and also act as an exchange program. During the event, the main objective, that
is, promoting unity and cohesion will be the main agenda in during the effect because without
that, the event will not be able to achieve its set goals. For the event to be successful, the
organization will seek for outside help from event holders to grace the occasions and ensure that
the employees are fully entertained. As usual, foods and drinks will be provided during the event
(Vieira, 2014).
Seasonal events are essential but daily activities are more important. As a result, I will
ensure that the organization provides coffee hour breaks because this will ensure that workers
from different departments interact with each other and share their job challenges and advice
each other on the ways forward to solve the problems (Grant, 2010).
Organizing for control
Organizing for control on the other hand ensures that the organizational plans do not
deviate from the set standards. Controlling comprise of three steps which are establishment of
the performance standards, comparing actual performance against the set standards, and taking
corrective actions where necessary. Therefor with organizational for control, I will ensure that
the organizational operational goals are set to the required standards of the organization.
Secondly, it will be duty to ensure that proper procedures are set to measure the organizational
CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 6
achievements against the set standards, and finally, ensuring that necessary steps and corrective
actions are clearly defined to help in feast troubleshooting of the system (NHS Institute for
Innovation and Improvement (Great Britain) 2008).
In most cases, performance standards are normally set in terms of monetary stands like
profits, revenue, cost, level of customer service satisfaction, number of defective products and
number of units produced. Performance measurement I usually done in several ways according
to the standards of performance using sales reports, financial statements, customer satisfaction,
formal performance appraisals, and production results. The controlling nature of organizing does
not mean that as a mange I will be influence the behavior, character, culture, and beliefs of the
subordinates, but it means that I will be responsible in ensuring that the measures put in place
ensure that the work related activities of the subordinates conform and are consistent with the
departmental and organizational objectives are accomplished ((NHS Institute for Innovation and
Improvement (Great Britain) 2008).
Effective organizing for control requires me as the manager and the subordinates to come
up with plans since through planning, necessary performance standards and objectives are
provided. Controlling require that I have a clearly understanding of where deviations from
standards originate. The control techniques that will be planned for are performance and budget
audits whereby supporting documents and verification of records will be carried out. Budget
audit will be essential because it will tell the financial position of the organization and while
performance audit will ensure that the figure reported are accurate to enhance better organization
in future. Despite control being perceived to be financial base, I will also be responsible for
organizing for the control of operations and production processes, compliance with
CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 7
organizational policies, and service delivery among other activities in the organization (Nankana,
2005).
Organizing for customer service
Customers are the backbone of the organization and without them production and service
delivery in an organization will come to a halt when they stop consuming services and products
offered by the organization. My subordinates and I will therefore be responsible of carrying out a
customer insight to understand what they need and expect from the organization, and mainly
their perception about the organization (Donaldson, 2009). I will ensure full support to the
customer service manager to ensure that they focus is mainly on the customers. By doing so, I
will ensure that sufficient funds are allocate to the department to carry out customer intelligence
survey to gather data they will ensure proper planning in the organization. Proper analysis of the
customer needs and expectations will then be conducted to come up with a proper intension of
obtaining good results (Payne & Frow, 2013).
Also, I will work hand in hand with my subordinates to ensure that service personality or
service vision is created that will distinguish us from other organization. Moreover, we will come
up with a customer service strategy which is responsible for the general directing an organization
is likely to take. This will be aimed at maximizing customer loyalty, customer satisfaction, and
achieve the success of the organization. In the process, I will ensure that effective
communication exists internally and externally to avoid misconceptions and negativity that when
it is embedded, it proves hard to do away with. I will also come up with a proper service
framework; disseminate some responsibilities to other leaders and managers who carry the flag
of the organization (Payne & Frow, 2013).
CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 8
Moreover, I will ensure that intelligent, high-performing, and well-motivated people are
recruited, and ones in place, use their good judgment, empathy, tolerance, communication skills,
and high interpretation skills to cope respond to the organizations rules appropriately. Also, with
the support of subordinates and coordination with employees, we will come up with innovative
services and products. In other words, I will encourage employee participation in the decision
making processes to enhance innovation. Above all, I will ensure proper management of
customer relation, establish performance metrics, and design and implement customer-centric
process to make it easy for customers to purchase the services and product ((NHS Institute for
Innovation and Improvement (Great Britain) 2008).
In conclusion, CPD is essential in employment because it demonstrates understating of
content learn in a course and the ability to transform the theoretical knowledge into a real life
situation to offer solutions to the problems and challenges experienced in the world in the
respective fields. Organizing is a vital part of management that needs to b properly managed to
ensure those organizational objectives are met. This can only be achieved through organizing for
safety, well-being, customer satisfaction, and control.
