Departure from Social Media

Slowly, people are becoming aware of the burden that new technology comes with. After the initial excitement that comes with a new technology. People slowly become weary and choose to get rid of it. On top of the capabilities, new technologies bring with them new responsibilities. These new responsibilities comprise the need to update your status on social media and return missed calls among others.

With advancing technology, people have become more reachable. While being reachable may sound like a good thing, it is also limiting to how much people can enjoy themselves. When people need time to themselves the most, it becomes impossible for them to get it. With advancing technology, people are even capable of getting someone’s exact location when they need to have some alone time. As Weeks (2009) notes, the majority of individuals look up to technology to ease the tyranny they suffered from the lack of it. It only turns out to be another form of tyranny in the future.

With the new responsibilities, people are slowly turning from the new technology after a few years and even months of interacting with it. After opening multiple accounts on Social media platforms, people are coming back to these platforms and closing them. E-fatigue is a real condition even among friends and family. The more one gets attached to technology, the more they are likely to lack time for other activities. There are even conditions currently associated with social media and technology such as addiction. Upon realization of the enormity of the burden that comes with technology, we are slowly turning away from it.

While technology has become increasingly important in enhancing interpersonal communication among friends and family, it has brought with it a heavy burden. People are becoming increasingly aware of the negative impacts of technology and social media. People have realized that social media and other technological discoveries are making them less productive.
