Discussion on Importance of Motivation in a Workplace

Week 8
Traditionally, work diversity referred to representations to various genders, religious background and races, while today the concept encompasses other variables like skillset, cognitive style, age, education, personality, background and others. Diversity increases exposure of employees from different backgrounds and culture as they learn from their workmates. It fosters mutual respect among employees as it helps them recognize the many talents and strengths. Employees who acknowledge diversity find similarities and the respect will facilitate conflict resolution as well as reduce the likelihood of conflict.
Sometimes back I was working on a sales company and each individual had his/her share. On this particular month, I made a lot of sales breaking all previous records. The supervisor surprised me one morning during a staff meeting star performer award. He represented to me an engraved plaque and issued a press notice on the company’s website. This was the first time to receive such an honor, and it increased my performance and that of my coworkers. This changed my attitude towards my work, I loved what I did and I continued to boost my sales.

I like the way you have discussed and explained the importance of diversity in a workplace. I agree with you that it increases creativity as diverse minds when brought together will be a source of solutions as the individuals brings out their decision making, operating and solving problems and thinking. It creates a satisfied diverse customer base and increases market share through the relation of individuals from different backgrounds. I have noted that your administrator provided to you a professional enrichment which is a good and long-term motivating strategy to be used to employees. How else can you continue to motivate others?

As you have discussed, workplace diversity is vital for organizations and affects the baseline of any company’s revenue. I like the fact that diversity is a source of mutual respect which is generated from co-workers with different culture and working style creating a synergistic work environment. Respect is gained from many strengths and talents from colleagues’ performance. Diversity also offers more than exposures to employees as they learn from workers which work attitude or style vary. What can happen if an organization assumes diversity in its operation?
