Career Choice: Easy for Superheroes, Hard for Us

In this article the author tries to persude the reader into believing superheros are more beneficial. Superheros can do limitless thing vs the average person. I totally agree with Mr. Dik ,its much easier to become a superhero than trying to figure which career is best for you. He uses Peter parker as an example, he states “Now imagine that peter had squashed the offending spider before its bite, never to enjoy the benefits of life as spider man”(Dik, 2012. p. 233). It took me forever to figure out what I wanted to do as a career. I finally decided which career path I want to take, which is the medical route. In todays society you have to go to school for a certain amount of time just to accomplish something. Most people are afraid to do that because they know school is challenging for them. Towards the end of the article he states  “Seriously, who among us hasn’t imagined how great it would be to wake up one morning with superpowers?” (Dik, 2012. P.233). My question for you would be, if you were a superhero how would you feel about this? would you wish you were normal or stay the same?

I chose to write about the article “Career Choice: Easy for Superheroes, Hard for Us: Spider-Man and the Power of Person-Environment Fit” by Bryan Dik. I do believe that all the ideas presented were in a logical sequence. And, at the end of the essay i also believe Dik did show that there is closure . In this essay they’re trying to say that it is easier for someone with super powers to figure out what their career is gonna be or what they want to do with their life. I totally agree with this.  It is very hard for a normal person to figure out what career they want in life. I know it took me a whole lot of thinking , and changing my mind until I finally decided what I want to do. Some days I even consider something different but then I remember what I really want. I know for a fact, if I were a super hero it would be so much easier for me to just decide what I want my career to be and be sure about it. In the essay Dik also uses Peter Parker as an example. I don’t think that he was a very good example to use because Spider-Man was bit by a spider and that is how he became. That normally wouldn’t be the case with us normal people. How do you feel about this situation ? Do you feel that if you were a super hero and had all those powers it would be easier for you to choose a career ?
