Drug abuse is the misuse of drugs and medication. Some of these drugs are advised by a doctor, but the user of the drugs does opposite from what the doctor had initially advised. The misuse of drugs is seen mostly in youth and young adults. Another method of drug abuse comes about due to influence from friends and peers. This is a voluntary test on which a person, the use, feels like trying something new, and in the long run, they get used to the drug.
The using of drugs often, when not prescribed by the doctor, leads to what is known as drug addiction. This is a condition whereby a person may not do anything without consuming the drugs. This condition is hard to control in the sense that one can be in an uneasy situation until he or she consumes the required drug. (Babor, 2010). This is adaptable to the human body and hence it will bring up harmful consequences but still, the person has that urge to take in the drug.
Drug abuse comes in different. For instance, taking of excessive alcohol. This practice is not advisable to people especially those that mind their health. This practice will dig into a personal financial level whereby he or she will be forced to purchase alcohol in order to satisfy their thirst for alcohol. (Barrows, 1991). Therefore, this practice is categorized under drug abuse, and it will lead to financial disputes and interference of the human health. Also, consumption of excessive alcohol can lead to physical violence between two or more people or parties.
Drug addiction may be defined as a relapsing disease. This means that it may force one person to do things which he or she is not intended to do. This disease, addiction, interferes with the self-control of a person, therefore, he or she is not able to resist the thirst and the urge of taking the drug in order to satisfy his own needs. This addiction interferes the brain function of a person, the user. (Room, R 2010). This addiction may lead to poverty since a person is in need of the drug, hence, he or she goes a step to spend all of his dimes in order to have access to the drugs and alcohol which he or she is addicted to. (Barrows, 1991). This addiction interferes with both physical and financial activities. For the youth and young people in the society, they are always in the adventure mode, this means that they always want to have a new test of some, making them a liability of misusing drugs. (Babor, 2010).
In conclusion, any person regardless of the age, is hence advised not to engage in practices of drug abuse, since these practices may lead to consequences which will affect them physically, emotionally and also financially. Therefore, for people to have the knowledge of the harmful effects of drug abuse, education is the only key to spread the good gospel. The young people in the society should be educated by teachers and role models on the effects of misusing drugs hence a better life to live after.
