Effects of my personality type to my career and effectiveness at my job
Personality types can be generally be termed as the general collection of personality traits of different individuals which occur together therefor affecting either positively or negatively the productivity of an individual. I work in the military where I manage service contracts, money and projects and being an introvert this both positively and negatively affects the productivity of my work. Below is an in depth explanation of how my personality type affects my career and effectiveness at my job.
The Jung typology personality test revealed that my personality type is introverted Intuitive Thinking Judging (INTJ). Most people with this personality tend to be perfectionists and also they keep to themselves which can be perceived by many people as arrogance since many people with this personality tend to project a definitive stance in their confidence levels (Jung, & Briggs, 2017). Working as a manager in the military is challenging since most operations are done by the book and this can at times prove challenging to people with the personality INTJ as they tend to be innovative so long as the output is perfect.
The Jung typology personality test explains the various strengths and weaknesses of a person with the personality of INTJ. Some of the major strengths of a person with this personality test is that they tend to be perfectionists, therefore, very hard to impress as they want improvement on everything they do since it is never enough for them (Bauer, Carpenter Erdogan, et. al 2016). They are straight forward and tend to seize opportunities at any time even when no one has identified the opportunity yet, however, they can make very good managers. Some of the weaknesses they have is that they tend to disregard authority in their pursuit of perfection they at times are willing to. They also have less patience and minimal understanding of situations which leads to misunderstandings at times (Bauer, Carpenter Erdogan, et. al 2016). Due to the fact that they are overly private people which is at times misunderstood especially in the managerial positions am in it results in having very minimal business connections as I tend to socialize with my fellow INFJ due to my small circle of friends and those I allow to get close to me.
My personality as explained by Jung typology personality test, can affect my motivation when carrying out my duties as a manger in terms of productivity as well as how I mange people in the work place in various situations. Job satisfaction and motivation has cognitive, emotional, and behavioural components (Bernstein & Nash, 2008). Being a perfectionist and a person who tends to solve any problem that comes their way, I tend to conflict with fellow colleagues as well as subordinates when it comes to the quality of productivity in the institution at large (Redmond, & Bower, 2015).
Some of the steps that I can take to increase your strengths and build up your weaknesses is to ensure that I understand everyone I am working with so as to reduce conflict among fellow colleagues as well as my subordinates (Redmond, & Bower, 2015). The other step would be increasing the circle of friends so as not to limit the connections made at the work place, therefore, encouraging more people to approach me, which would alternatively increase the productivity at work.
In conclusion, it is important to understand one`s personality type so as to identify their weaknesses as well as their strengths. This is key in most managerial positions as it will help improve the relationships at the work place as well as ensure that the productivity of the work place does not get negatively affected.
