Escape to Death by Stephen Perkins

The story starts with a prostitute who moves to Hollywood in search of the big break. A beloved sultry TV girl murders her. Clover’s soul vows to come back and avenge. Unbeknownst to her, the murdered practices ark magi. This fact will make things a bit more complicated for her ghost to go through with the plan. 

Charlie Starker, L.A’s finest Private Investigator, is enlisted by Clover’s father to find her. The ensuing events lead to the discovery of a crazy scientist. A crazy scientist who has released a homemade monstrosity on to an unsuspecting world. Charlie will give his all to ensure justice is served and truth is uncovered. He might lose his own life in the process, but what does that matter?

 Stephen Perkins has an uncanny ability to bring together diverse subplots into one cute little bundle. The overall plot is well developed with lots of depth and just the right amount of shock. He manages to weave in sorcery and politics into one story seamlessly. The story is intricate and will demand undivided attention right from the get go. 

Escape to Death boasts a bank of great characters. From the investigator to Maria the TV girl. Maria is especially interesting albeit a little typical of a Hollywood airhead gushing about one thing or other. 

This is a book worth reading. The reader gets to experience a woman president. The reader will also get to be afraid of the dark horrors. The author has done a beautiful job. A job worthy of four stars.
