Feedback, Reflection, Thoughts, and Lessons of the Movie Peaceful Warrior

The film Peaceful Warrior revolves around Dan Millman, who is a talented but arrogant college gymnast and has Olympic dreams. He has achieved trophies, has fast motorcycles, girls, teammates, and attends wild parties. By his standards, he has achieved what most of his peers have not and is viewed with admiration by his friends. He, however, suffers from restlessness and one day when he was running he came along an old man called Socrates who has an insight into his problem. The old man has access to new worlds of understanding and strength. It is through the old man that Dan understands about life. His life also changes after he gets into a tragic injury where his leg bone gets shattered and with the help of the Socrates and Joy, he realized his spirit strength that leads man to achieve greatness.

The film is very educative and inspirational because it helps viewers to understand the journey that Dan goes through in the entire film. It shows all the events as they happen and the effects that our choices may have on our lives. Through the film, I got to understand that it is important to live in the moment and live it fully. In life, one should not worry about what the future holds because it makes a person worry a lot as they do not know what will happen in their lives next. When a person makes the decision to live his life in the present, he tends to be happier as compared o when he is always wondering what he will do in future. Socrates advised Dan to focus on living his life at the present moment, and when he did this, Dan realized that he was happier as he appreciated every moment. Living in the present moment also ensures that one can concentrate fully on their actions and makes the journey worthwhile.

The film also taught me that I should not focus on what people think about me. Everyone has either positive or negative opinions of others, and it should not weigh anyone down. After his accident and the devastating injury, Dan’s coach did not believe that he could compete in the national competition. Dan, however, proved him wrong by getting back to his training schedule and during the competitions, he emerged as the winner. If he had let the coach’s views affect him, he would have believed that he cannot compete and win, and as a result, he would not have trained and achieved his dream of winning the championship.

It is through the film that I understood that we should treat everyone we come across with respect, and we should always maintain an open mind that is ready to gain knowledge. Being a renowned college gymnast, Dan would have easily ignored Socrates because he was not the kind of person that he associated with. Dan, however, was interested in learning about Socrates and his beliefs and practices. By maintaining an open mind, he got to learn valuable lessons that were beneficial to his life and career.

Just like in Dan’s case, it is important to understand that every person that comes into our lives is important as they can help us change our mindset and become better individuals. It is, however, necessary to have the mind to understand the things that are beneficial to our lives because not everyone teaches positive things. In every action that we do, it is important to adopt the attitude of doing concentrating on the current situation and take a day at a time. What an individual thinks about himself is important and will determine the outcome of his actions so one should ensure to have a positive attitude.
