Grond IV: A Kind Wordd and A Gun by Yuri Hamaganov

Everything is gone. All has been wiped out. There is nothing to speak of. The only evidence of a former civilization is the few who manage to escape into space. ‘Lucky’ few who now scavenge and fight each other with brutal fervor. Everyone is just trying to survive. It is a man eat man society. It is chaotic. Olga must do her duty to restore some order. She must find allies. She must do whatever it takes to remedy the situation. Who is on her side and who is not? 

Yuri Hamaganov has given yet another riveting installment of the Grond Space Dystopia series. His writing seems to be getting better. The story of Olga escapades seem to be growing more enthralling and adventurous the further we go into the series. The narration is impeccable. The story is told in a tone that is just fitting for a sci-fi piece. The author does not shy away from the strangely unique. He pulls it off quite well. This book is packed with adventure and action. 

Olga has come a long way from when she was just a trainee. We have seen her grow in every installment. There is always just a little bit of change to denote maturity and growth. It is wonderful to see how she handles her work now. Before she was glad to do it. Now not only is he glad, she is also aware of her responsibility as a naval officer. She takes it seriously. She is not afraid to assert her authority. She is formidable. This character is very well developed. It only gets better each time. 

It is always exciting to see what tech Yuri will bring for us each time. Yuri’s writing is simple. It is meant to entertain and tell a story well. This book is aimed at anyone who enjoys a little sci-fi action fun packed with lots of adventure. If you are not into all the science fiction and dystopian essence, just look past it. You will find that you enjoy the story anyway. 

Books in the Grond series have always been quite heavy o the tech and science fiction. However, this book seems to be solely focused on the narrative. The story takes centre stage. Olga’s mission overshadows any minimal attempt to sneak in tech. That is one of the biggest differences between this fourth installment and the preceding ones. It also seems like there are more characters than in the other books in the series. They are all great literary experiences either way. 

This book is intense. It is action packed. It is suspenseful. It is a wonderful lot. The presentation and narration are excellent. It is definitely entertaining. Enjoy this book on a day when you feel like taking a whimsical ride somewhere. It offers an adventurous escape. Five stars out of five for GROND IV. It is a guaranteed age turner. Is it not hilarious that the title is an Al Capone quote?
