The selection process in a health care organization- Gray Haven Health Care Organization
The management of the Gray Haven Health Care invites candidates to fill different positions available on a yearly basis. The selection process employed entails three steps- a written test, an oral interview, and the final selection. For the written test, candidates answer both the descriptive and objective questions, marked out of 200. The first phase is usually carried out electronically through the Internet. The objective test tests on the knowledge of English, general knowledge, data analysis, and reasoning. The management decides on the pass mark, depending on the performance posted by the candidates. Descriptive test mainly deals with essay writing, and given to those candidates having passed in the objective test.
For the second phase-the oral interview, invitations are sent to candidates based on their performance in the objective, and descriptive tests. The management of the organization determines the qualifying mark. Qualification in the first and second phase leads the candidate to the final selection. The aggregate of the marks scored in the first and second phase determines the qualifying candidate for the job. Names of successful candidates are posted on the organization’s website. Training of the recruits is usually performed by the human resources, and follows after the deployment. The current system helps in the selection of people based on their intelligence. However, most of the times, the system faces the challenge of stereotyping, and the “like me effect”, especially during the oral interview. This calls for the need to modify the system to include different levels of managers to conduct the oral interview (Pynes & Lombardi, 2011).
