  1. Affordable care act

How will it function

The affordable care act is a healthcare act that is aimed at providing insurance cover to people using different plans. It will function by having different categories that depend on the income of a person and the amount of healthcare they will require. If for instance a person on a low salary wishes to have the their health care covered, they can choose one of the metal tiers that bests suits their salary range and their healthcare needs.

Consumer costs and services likely to be associated in each metal tier

In the bronze metal tier, a person pays the lowest costs monthly. However, should one require a medical procedure that needs a lot of money, they pay a lot for the one medical procedure. In the silver method, there is moderate monthly premium. There are also moderate costs when one needs care. The plan also has silver deductibles that are lower than those of the bronze. These are the amount of money that one pays for themselves before they can consider anything else. Finally, the gold tier where the person pays the most amount monthly, but pays the least when it is time to have a medical care procedure done.

Implications of this type of system for specific population groups

The system may have a positive impact on some population group. By having an option for people who have relatively low incomes, the system will make sure that everyone in that type of population can access healthcare in a way that they find best. The system also guarantees healthcare checkups for the various groups of people, especially if they need them regularly. The system also works for a population that is mainly composed of wealthy people. They get to pick the best metal tier for their healthcare. If there are unfortunate members in the population, they can be catered for using the whole policy and the insurance covers that the rich pay for. The system could also work for people who are predisposition to health issues or who need expensive surgeries done.

  1. Cultural Perspective of healthcare

People from different cultures usually react to medical care procedures differently. For example, it is common for some groups of people to have a problem with some medical procedures such as blood transfusion. They may also have certain beliefs that indicate how they react and respond to proposed healthcare procedures (Clark, 2015).

In this case, I select the members of the Nilotic tribes in Eastern Africa to see how their culture, beliefs and practices affect the healthcare procedures that they have, and what can be done to counter them. Among most of these people and communities, cattle keeping is an important economic activity. This means that they get a lot of products from cows which include hides and skin and also sometimes, it includes milk and meat. In the process of getting these products, they may face some injuries and cuts. The communities generally use the same procedures for a large number of things. They often do not care whether or not these methods work, or if they have been tested. As a result, they may have some bad side effects from the use of unproven methods.

Often, the people from these communities seek to treat the injuries that they get from their daily activities with cow dung or urine. Sometimes, they may choose this instead of proven and tested medical procedures. Their culture dictates that they do this. Some of the things that they use may often have some negative effects that may include worsening of the symptoms that they may have acquired from the bruises and injuries. This case is an example of how a culture, the beliefs and practices of a community can affect healthcare. In this case, it looks like the community in general compromises their health by not following the set guidelines. In order to avoid this, the healthcare professionals working in that area may choose to train the locals on how to make informed and evidence based healthcare choices. This may involve making sure that these people have enough healthcare facilities.

  1. Case Study

In this case study, the major factor to consider in healthcare is the economic perspective as portrayed by the previous reading. The health of the community at large is important in considering the healthcare practices to be given. However, different communities tend to have different cultural beliefs that may affect the economy and in turn, affect the way healthcare is provided to people in that community. To understand better, it is important to consider a very low income community. In this community, the healthcare service providers have to work with relatively limited budgets. For this reason, some of the more needed equipment and procedures may not be carried out.

In a community, healthcare providers and people who are trusted with making sure that the general health is good in a community. They promote the use of vaccines. They also encourage the use of tried and tested means of disease prevention such as good food hygiene and other safe practices. These tend to make sure that the population and the community is safe from dangerous diseases.

However, the above factors require a strong economic point to operate them. As a result, they tend to be a general way to try and raise cash from the general public. This involves having insurance policies that cater for the various needs of these people. Sometimes, these policies may need to cater for the various groups of people in the population by having different tiers (American Psychological Association, 2009).

The case study here has shown the effects of the economy on community health. If the economy is doing well, people tend to care more about their health than when the economy is doing poorly. If the economy is doing poorly, the effect is often felt on the population. People become less interested in their general health. They do not make the best food choices and in general work hard to save their money.
