Introduction
Globalization nature is deemed as development that interlinks the human requirements on an international basis. Over the past years, certain aspects are discovered that can affect the globalization including political, economic, business and work milieu along with technological sources (Binder, 2017). This also encompasses international projects coordination. Moreover, all the members associated with global projects has considerable role along with hierarchy influence position. Considering the same, the paper will explain all advantageous factors along with challenges related with project management (Binder, 2017).
The objective of this research is to analyze several challenges and advantages associated with global project management. The paper will research on concerns associated with project management along with several opportunities available that can help in addressing such issues associated with project management.
Global project management has a broad concept and is deemed necessary for organizations for communicating with different organizations through taking into account their laws and regulations (Gemünden, 2015). The scope of this research is wide and the subject of this research proposal is among the challenging concerns of today’s world along with having a few opportunities. For this reason, the literature review will explain the global project management along with referring to several journal articles of different authors.
According to Geppert, Matten and Williams, (2016) globalization has increased because of high advancement in communication and transportation networks all through the world. Moreover, there are numerous causes behind global services option that includes cost efficiency, qualified skills availability and increased focus on core competencies. Gholami and Murugesan, (2013) revealed several challenges associated with organizations are because of different cultures. In addition, location of different global teams is deemed to have considerable effect on the project implementation. Gholami and Murugesan, (2013) explained several advantages associated with global project management that supports the nation to communicate with one another for attaining economic advantages. It is also elucidated that these types of advantages are for people those which consider investing within it. The major objective of global project management is to offer the opportunity in exploring untapped markets.
Global delivery, e.d. Global delivery., (2017) stated that the major aspect of global project management is that this offers global exploration other than the organizational culture as the world is rich in diversity. In addition, there are several cultures, religions, beliefs and languages that ring diversity to work surrounding facilitating advancement in collective thinking and decreasing group thinking. These researchers also revealed that global project management develops motivation in work environment as well as facilitating strong information exchange. Kerzner, (2013) indicated that global project facilitates in association with highly approached team members with identical project devoid of indicating needs of shifting teams to other nations. These researchers’ revealed issues related with languages and discovered barriers that might generate uncertain prospect for every associated member.
Consequences of this includes affected communication that is vital aspect of global project management as it facilitates communication with one another and lack of communication might result in wrong information being conveyed. Kerzner, (2017) evidenced that traditional project management greatly centres on planning and tracking details of costs, specifications and timeliness. Moreover, vital challenges associated with global project management include language, distance, time zones, and information access and business culture.
From analysis of the literature review it is gathered that previous research papers on global project management failed to expand the specific framework for identifying certain aspects that must be considered before commencing a global project (Levin, 2016). Considering this, the current research will address such research gap through explaining the major challenges and opportunities related with global management project. Moreover, previous researches also failed to explain that cultural diversity is among the major concern within global management projects that is dealt by an organization’s project manager (Levitt & Scott, 2017). This research gap will be addressed on this study as this will explore cultural differences can bring global project management opportunities because of its rich diversity.
Research Hypotheses
Research hypothesis that is to be tested through completion of this study is explained under:
-
Hypothesis 1: The challenges and advantages associated with global project management have an impact on global projects
-
Hypothesis 2: The opportunities available have positive impact on addressing issues associated with project management
-
Hypothesis 3: Certain aspects such as political, economic, business and work milieu along with technological sources has positive impact on the globalization and the global projects
The primary question that is to be answered through completion of this research is:
- What are the challenges and advantages associated with global project management?
The secondary question those are to be answered through completion of this research is:
- What are the opportunities available that can help in addressing issues associated with project management?
- What are the aspects that can affect the globalization and the global projects?
Research Design and Methodology
Qualitative data will be collected from journals, books and articles that is gathered online library on the subject “challenges and opportunities associated with project management”. Gathered data will be analyzed for attaining suitable research findings (Levitt & Scott, 2017).
Both qualitative and quantitative data collection method will be employed in this research of analyzing the challenges and opportunities associated with global project management (Binder, 2017). Qualitative data will be gathered from globally reliable web sources and quantitative data will be collected through survey method.
Dependent variable in the current research will be accomplishment of global management projects and the independent variable will be culture challenges impacting project management and opportunity of exploiting untapped global markets (Levitt & Scott, 2017).
Quantitative research design will be used in this study as it is systematic, formal and objective manner of gathering quantifiable data all across the globe. Gathered data will be presented in numerical form through use of statistical instruments (Binder, 2017).
Questionnaire data collection instrument is used in this study within which systematically structured questions will be developed for the survey respondents. These questions can be self administered and developed in interview outline (Geppert, Matten & Williams, 2016).
Data gathered through quantitative and qualitative process will be analyzed by means of using statistical and analytical processes. Data will be evaluated for attaining suitable research findings by implementing regression and correlation analysis (Levitt & Scott, 2017).
Non-probability sampling method will be used in this research with sample size of 51 survey respondents. Among them, 31 unemployed and 20 employed will be presented with the structured questionnaire.
Interviewing and Questionnaire Design
Interview will be carried out on the respondents those are project managers and faced challenges in accomplishing global project tasks. Questionnaire structure will contain several behavioral, factual and attitudinal questions that will facilitate in attaining desired research put comes (Geppert, Matten & Williams, 2016).
Collected primary and secondary data will be from reliable sources. These sources will have data from recent date and primary data will be collected from suitable survey respondents that will ensure reliability of the collected responses (Binder, 2017).
Despite having numerous research implications, the investigation has several limitations. First limitation is the study only centered on the officially reported challenges associated with the global projects (Levitt & Scott, 2017). Differences in figures reported by the internet sources has made cross jurisdiction comparisons highly complex. In addition, another limitation is that the survey sample size that is taken is small because of the time constraint that might impact the reliability of the research findings. Future research will focus on selecting a large sample size for attaining a detailed description regarding challenges associated with the project management (Binder, 2017).
