Research Question: what are the factors that drive illegal immigration in Europe and United States?

Thesis: illegal migration is driven by the irregularities between the demand of labor and supply, which indicates a tension between politics and economics, as politics prevents trades from hiring workers they require regularly.

Reasons for the Thesis

• The migration of  low-skilled labor facilitates illegal migration channels
• There is a challenge with low paid and accordingly low skilled workers due to the increased education to local workers, whilst the remaining local low skilled rejects the available low paid jobs.
• Another reason for the thesis from an economic perspective is that illegal immigrants act as a significant supply of low-skilled labor making the countries to have a high dependence to the conditions of labor market than illegal immigration, turning them to be appealing to E.U. and U.S. employers                                                                  

Possible Opposing View

The United States and Europe have raised various barriers, both legal and physical to illegal immigration resulting to stricter border controls and increasing the requirements for acceptance in the countries. This strategy will reduce the number of illegal immigrants.

Response to Opposing View

The main reason for this contradictory trend is the public fear that immigrants are posing a threat to their jobs due to lower average wages, becoming a source of religious and ethnic conflict.
