Influence of Leadership and Administration on School Performance

Purpose of the Research Study

The study seeks to identify how the mode of leadership in schools influences performance of students and morale of educators. Through the research, it is possible to identify how leadership and performance correlates and what makes good leaders. Further, the research aim to identify how administrators can embrace appropriate leadership style to influence change in their organization. The study will also involve reviewing the different styles of leadership skills and their influence on institutions meeting different objectives. Additionally, the research will seek to identify how leaders influence positive attitude in their followers and make them share with the vision of their schools. Therefore, the research will present ideas on what good leadership entails and how institution administrators can tap such characteristics to boost their performance.

Settings or Subjects Selected for the Study

In order to get adequate information about leadership, school administrators in different schools will act as the source of the information for the research. The visit in the schools will be on bases of registered performance of the school in relation to other schools. The focus will mostly be on those institutions that have registered good results in national examinations over the years. A visit to the school will enable comparison of results in different years and type of leadership in the schools. Further, the visit will seek to understand whether there is any variation in performance when the leadership of school changes. The information will be relevant in assessing whether school performance correlate to a particular person or leadership in such an institution bases on current institution culture. Further, a study will take place in schools that have registered poor performance to understand whether their administration and leadership have a role in influencing such observations. The analysis will engage the administrators in these institutions and the educators who are the link between management and the students. The diversified information will help in developing an understanding of how leadership influences performance.

Research Questions That Will Guide the Study

  1. What are the characteristics of a good leaders and administrators in a school?
  2. How do effective leaders influence a sense of shared vision with their followers in achieving good performance in their school?
  3. What separates performing schools from a poor schools despite both having leaders and administrators that guide their operations?
  4. How can schools shape effective leadership in their administration and create a good working relationship that boosts teamwork in their institutions?

Justification of Using Correlational Research Design in the Study

In this research, correlational research design will help show the relationship that exists between effective leadership or administration and performance. The correlational design helps a researcher to establish how one variable affects the other in an experiment (Stangor, 2015).  In this case, a focus will be on understanding relationship of performance to administrators’ leadership skills and styles. Correlational design is relevant because it helps build prediction model that can show how changing one variable can influence the other (Omair, 2016). Indeed, it is important because it gives researchers ability to develop reliable hypothesis for future studies (Stangor, 2015). Therefore, such data can be relied to make decisions on how to influence performance in schools that perform poorly. Further, the results from correlational design are appropriate in guiding administrators in effective styles of leadership to motivate their followers. Therefore, the administrators can opt to train school leadership to embrace character traits that influence their ability to influence change in their institutions. Further, the approach is important as it helps policy makers to determine how poor leadership can divert the progress of an institution due to poor focus on set goals.

Further, correlational research design allows a researcher to use correlation coefficient tools to determine the exact relationship between two variables (Omair, 2016). Through statistical analysis, a positive coefficient shows that increase in one variable result to direct improvement of the other (Boucaud, 2017). In the scenario, if a positive coefficient exists between leadership and school performance, education stakeholders will train their administrators to be good leaders. Indeed, such an observational will show that boosting capacity of leadership in the school that performs poorly will improve their performance. Correlational research is also beneficial to their study because it is relatively inexpensive and fast in collecting of data (Boucaud, 2017). Therefore, a researcher uses relatively less capital in conducting this kind of a reach. Indeed, it is possible to visit different schools and gauge their performance on basis of their administrators’ leadership skills. The high number of institutions visited improves the reliability of results and lowers statistical errors that may arise. The quick data collection makes it possible for a researcher to collect extensive data within a short duration. Further, the analysis of such data is simple because to compares two variables that are directly related.
