Introduction
Now-a-days the physician burnout is a very big problem in the healthcare system which is mostly observed in healthcare experts, especially general physicians. They usually show signs of tiredness, depression, and low self-esteem. The following case-study discusses how the doctors experience daily problems especially frustration when managing electronic health records (EHRs). The report also discussed that those individuals who are responsible for attesting the EHRs create more work for physicians. Researchers of this report concluded that during each hour physicians have to give their time to multiple patients and around two extra hours is used on desk work and EHR during the clinic shift time. And also out of the shift time, physicians are able to spend only around one or two hours of their personal time and later again continue their clerical work (LEVENTHAL, 2017).
Background
Collaboration is the key to create a healthy physician-organization relationship and reduce the physician burnout for the success of organization. Collaboration during the improvement of procedure can encourage these relations and reduce burnout by meeting the psychological requirements of the physicians’. To reduce burnout and enhance their career they need to have control over their lives, social relations and a chance to excel. Healthcare organizations can share these chances by developing positive and productive relation among organization and physician and encouraging individuals to take part in leadership roles (Lilly, Cucchi, Marshall & Katz, 2019).
Why is this case study important?
According to various studies, electronic health records (EHRs) are expected to enhance the communication between healthcare members, and make it easily accessible and review patient information. It is also expected to reduce billing and insurance paperwork, and improve the health experience for both physicians and patients. However, the physicians know the reality and do not agree with the theoretical concept. Working with EHR takes a lot of physician’s important time, making it tougher for them to finish their tasks in a timely manner and thus they fail to contribute their time in professional burnout. The following case-study is essential as it is very important to develop approaches that can help in reducing the burnout that occurs due to the use of EHR. As per a survey, it was stated that around 1,800 physicians of Rhode Island went through significant amount of stress and burnout due to the use of electronic health records (EHRs) (Are, 2018).
Identify how you would play a role in this healthcare environment.
As a member of the healthcare system, it is important to develop strategies or take definitive actions to help in reducing the physician burnout (Olson et al., 2019). It is important to keep a notice on the level of burnout and stress of the physician and check that it does not increases as the health IT continues to grow. Stakeholders are required to take appropriate action to reduce the issue with administrative burden and EHR use (Olson et al., 2019).
Conclusion
There have been several studies which have discussed about different strategies or approaches that can help in reducing the burnout in physicians. However, certain interventions have been discussed like the voice recognition software and keyboard-and-mouse user interface have been considered has a limitation in the process of reducing burnout in physicians (Collier, 2018).
