The reader is taken to the future through Julia’s life. The year is 2050, and Julia is celebrating her 55th birthday. She is a renowned artist, and her pieces of art are recognized around Rotterdam and beyond. I particularly loved the mayor’s letter as it spoke to me in a way. The first sentence of the letter reads “To break through at a young age is the dream of every artist”. Though speaking about Julia’s life, the first sentence resonates with a lot of us, not just artists. It’s a dream for every ambitious being to get to the peak at a young age.
Peter Cantacuzino’s letter was written in a passionate manner, expressing strong emotions about Julia’s life. Through the mayor’s eyes, one could see how much of a gem Julia was. With very few words, the mayor summarized Julia’s life. He talked a bit about who she was, her impact, the challenges she endured while growing up and her strength. The letter is sort of a foreword, and the reader gets a glimpse of what to expect.
Julia’s memoir is brilliant. How does one person go through all she went through? Her life was quite eventful, and the good thing is that there was something to be picked at the end of both the good and bad experiences. Julia was gifted, and in her memoir, she attempted to show her past in the most heartfelt way possible. The reader could quickly fall in love with Julia, as she was a character who had her way with words and could easily express herself to her audience. Life was not always good, as tragedies were part of her when growing up.
The second part of the book is basically about technology and the changes it brings. It’s 2050 and technology has obviously advanced. Artificial intelligence is in control, taking over from man. I loved how technology was portrayed here. Man, in his carelessness had refused to take care of the environment, ignoring things that could lead to the destruction of most natural resources in the universe. Artificial intelligence was now at the helm, trying to fix things and prevent further destruction of the universe. The FreeHackers were my heroes. I especially loved Nadja and the qualities she possessed. She was focused and could make a good leader.
“Julia’s Memories and the Interflow of Things” is a great book. The author’s idea to have two books in one was ingenious. The first part of the book focuses just on Julia’s past life. On the second bit, the author takes us through technology and its effects on mankind. Julia’s life is a little different, considering all the changes.
I would recommend this book to every reader who enjoys stories about the future. This is a work of fiction which borrows a few concepts from the real world. It’s totally worth your time, and you will definitely enjoy the style of narration and the arrangement of the stories
