Labeling Regulations of Indonesia

Product-industries (2016) illustrates that in the Republic of Indonesia, Labeling Regulation was enacted 25 June 2014. The regulation stipulates that all produced or imported goods in the Indonesian market should be labeled in the Indonesian language. The Labeling Regulation requires all consumer products in the Indonesian market to be shown in the Bahasa Indonesia language and well labeled on the package. The regulation prohibits stickers and thus labels must be permanently attached and fully integrated into the product. The labels contain health and safety information also name and address of the manufactured or imported the goods.

  1. Product information

Rangkuti  and Slete (2010) illustrated that food labeling is an essential method of product information access to the Indonesian customers about what the products contain. This information helps the customer to select the goods based on the contents and risks stipulated on the label. Labeling of foodstuffs in Bahasa language helps, users to see vital information on the label. The label shows the expiry date, safe handling, and storage.

  1. Nutritional content

According to Global Expandia (2016), labeling is important for healthy nourishment due to providing data about the nutritional value. This provision of nutritional content intends to offer information concerning food nutrition and thus enabling comparison amongst foodstuffs during purchase. Provision of nutritional content helps consumers make informed choices for better healthy eating habits. This labeling further benefits the consumer through avoiding food which may lead to the occurrence of chronic diseases.

  1. Regulations and Review Its Effect on Manufacturers, Suppliers, and Distributors

Gbgindonesia (2016) demonstrated that employment regulations pose a risk in the shoe industries in Indonesia.  This Labour Law mandates appropriate payment and additional rewards for long-serving staff, making layoffs a costly undertaking. The law leaves limited options for outsourcing by manufacturers. According to World Bank, Indonesia’s employment rules are the most restrictive in East Asia. This strictness has lead to the existence of a large informal sector.
