LEADERSHIP STYLES

The first 9 questions in the Blake & Mouton Managerial grid questionnaire usually tell about how concerned managers are with production. The second set of questions gives an idea as to whether the managers have sufficient concern for the workforce. They should therefore be analyzed separately to get an idea as the leadership styles of the managers (Crainer, 2003). The table below gives the data as it should be presented.

1 concern for production concern for people
question male female question male female
1 4 4.2 10 4 4

3. The below pie chart can be obtained for the medians of the data presented.

4. Both male and female managers have higher production oriented skills, than people oriented skills. Female managers have better leadership qualities than their male counterparts. However, note from the pie chart above, there is only a slight disparity in the leadership styles of both men and women (Blake & Mouton, 1994).

5. Leadership training sessions should mainly be concentrated on the male managers.

Both male and female managers should have training on concern for people

Male managers should be taught on the importance of prioritizing the concern of others and how it can impact on production.

The leadership styles for both genders are however above the middle of the road and so not badly off.

All managers should be trained on team skills so that they can learn to exploit the full potential of workers(Blake & McCanse, 1997).
