LEADERSHIP THEORY AND MOTIVATION THEORY CONNECTED

The Great Man theory of leadership means that an individual is born to be a leader and
does not need any training to help him know how to act as one (Singh, 2015). In this case, the
person fits well in a leadership position as he was born to do that and he has the necessary traits
to lead others. For an organization to be successful, leadership plays an important role as it
determines whether or not the employees will perform their roles efficiently. The Maslow
motivational theory indicates that for employees to perform the tasks assigned to them efficiently
there are five needs that must be provided (Landy & Conte, 2010). These needs include self-
actualization, esteem, belongingness, safety, and physiological. A great man leader should ensure
that the five needs of the Maslow motivation theory are met for the employees to ensure that the
performance of the organization is not affected. The leader can, for instance, ensure that the
company offers training and advancement opportunities for the employees. Through the training,
the employees will improve their skills and have the ability to perform their roles competitively.
The leader should also ensure that the employees are compensated well for their efforts as this
helps to motivate them.
The great man theory shows that a leader is born with all the characteristics of a good
leader and does not need to be trained or taught on how to handle a leadership position. Because
of this, it makes it easy for him to ensure that the needs of the Maslow theory are provided for
the employees so that that they can perform their tasks satisfactorily (Alizor, 2013). This also
makes the leader ensure that the goal theory is effected to guarantee the success of an
organization’s performance. The leader, in this case, helps the employees identify the goals that
they need to achieve and the best ways that they can use to achieve them. He also helps the

employees to overcome any challenges that they may face while working and offers them
rewards when their performance is great. The comfort of the employees is considered important
by the leader and goes out of his way to make sure that a good working environment is
maintained.
The leadership style is effective for conflict resolution because the leader has the traits
that are necessary to handle any conflict that may arise within an organization. With this
leadership style, the leader knows how to handle a conflict in the workplace and also puts in
place measures that are important to ensure that the conflict does not arise again (Bojeun, 2014).
It also helps the leader to understand the sources of conflict within an organization and deals
with them before they result in a conflict. This form of leadership is also effective because it
ensures the leader handles a conflict without favor or bias. It is easy for people to be based
especially when they have to solve a conflict but in this case, the leader understands the
importance of handling the conflict in an efficient manner.
The leadership style embodies emotional intelligence because the leader has the skills
required to lead other people in an efficient manner. It also shows that the leader is mature
enough to handle his life as well as ensure the success of the company or organization that he has
been selected to lead. He knows what the right or wrong practice in an organization, what can
lead to its failures and how to ensure that the organization is best placed in the market it operates.
