“Good evening ladies and gentlemen. It’s my pleasure to see that you are all here. Let me take this opportunity to thank all of you for turning up. My name is Bruce Goldstein, your new elected mayor. We are here today, in concern of the local economy of our town, Sparksville. First of all, we are going to major on the plans that I have come with today to promote our economy while maintaining a high level of environmental air quality. We are then going to look at the current situation of our economy, and three choices that we will have as our remedies, and how they will impact water pollution and indoor and outdoor pollution, we will discuss on the environmental challenges and lastly come up solutions to make our town a better one.
As you all know, our environment is constantly changing so we should be able to know the problems surrounding it. Our town has been invaded with pollution currently that is, air, water and soil pollution amongst others. Motor vehicles and industries have become one of the major pollutants to our environment. Matson & Vitousek (11) argues that, Plastics, metals and nitrates are the leading substances for pollution. However, water pollution has been contributed by acid rains, oil spills and runoffs from our urban centers. We are also being faced with a problem of air pollution that is occurring when industries release toxins and various gases. Lastly we have solution pollution and this has been contributed greatly by the wastes of industries.
Apart from pollution, we are being faced with public health issues and this is being caused when we consume dirty water thus threating our health. Water disposal has also been a problem in our town due to creation of plastics, and consuming resources excessively. Due to these inconveniences we have therefore come up with three choices which we are going to work upon and see the impacts that they will bring to our economy. According to Hager, Hassenzah & Berg (13), they include; recycling, water conservation, improve structures For Educational awareness and encourage others to conserve.
Following the ‘International Journal of Environmental Science, Chulick, Cudney and Tian, (12), remarkably says that ,Recycling helps in decreasing the number of pollutants that enters into the atmosphere. Moreover we are going to communicate officially to the ministry of industries so that they can minimize the raw materials that they use while making new products and this will lower the emission of gases. I therefore urge you to play your part in choosing products that can be re-used, instead of disposable ones. Buy products with packages that are Minimum to help in waste reduction and try as much as possible to recycle glass, plastic, aluminum cans and newspapers.
Secondly, I would like to urge you to educate one another that include both adults and children so that they can be able to understand problems of the environment. I am going to communicate with the government so that they can develop environmental facilities where generations will be broadly educated.
Thirdly, I have also come up water conservation remedy which will help to preserve and protect water to be used in future and this will also save your money. Each one of you should exercise the responsibility of daily water conservation by turning off taps and sinks when not in use or keep rain water storage so that it can be used for farm activities.
Lastly, we should all learn to conserve and we should also encourage one another so as to improve the economy of our town. After we disperse from this meeting, go and discuss and share information that includes recycling and conservation with your neighbors, co-workers and your friends. Take chances to also encourage public authorities to come up with policies and programs that are environmentally friendly. Again, thank you everyone for your time and for you cooperation. I hope you will do all that we have said”.
