MARTIN LUTHER KING JR

Martin Luther king Jr (1929-1968) was born in Atlanta Georgia. He had a brother, Alfred and a sister, Christine. Both his father and grandfather were ministers and his mother was a school teacher who taught him how to write before he went to school. He was an excellent student in school; he skipped grades in both elementary school and high school. He graduated from Morehouse college (B.A 1948), Crozer Theological Seminary (B, D 1951) and in 1955 he graduated with PhD from Boston university. King was ordained in 1947 and in 1954 he became a minister of Baptist church in Montgomery. During 1955-1956 he was in a frontline leading the black boycott of segregated city bus lines and in 1956 gained a major victory and prestige as a civil-right leader when the Montgomery buses began to operate on a desegregated basis. He became very active in movements of civil rights and racial equality. It’s in regard to this that he won the Nobel peace prize in 1964. King was murdered on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. He died when he was only 39 year of age.

King was a compassionate, honest warm and wise individual who had a good and clear sense of purpose, self definition and internal balance such that even today it is difficult to appreciate the magnitude of his greatness. His gifts were many like the eloquent of speech that reached to millions of people world over. He was dearly loved and appreciated by the oppressed but also despised and hated by those who opposed him. He urged a nation and the people to live a true meaning of its existence and heritage and in so doing infused his people with pride and determination to change their world. The oppressed were made to feel were not alone, he gave hope to the poor, friendship to the lonely, understanding to the ignorant and helped the lost find their way. He had breathtaking views and thought that seemed very simple. The whole human conducts were spanned by his thoughts. He had a strength born of humility. Martin Luther king was a man of his times, for all times and all nations.
