Reflection 1- Motivation
Describe- Motivation plays an important role for the accomplishment of the business goals and objectives as this helps increasing productivity of the employees along with their own abilities. It helps to improve and stimulate the behavior of the employees related to goal orientation (Gagné, 2014). I understood that motivation should be initiated by the managers. As a manager, I should be motivating my employees so that they work according to the strategies which are strategized for the achievement of the success of the business. At the same time, it is also important for me to stay motivated in the right direction so that it can help me motivating the employees for achieving the most valued result.
Interpret- For the better understanding of the term motivation, an activity has been performed by the students. The activity includes that we are required to interview each of us for the determination of the motivation factors at work. After conducting the interview it has been found that every employee is willing to go to work regularly no matter how hard it is if they are motivated in the proper way. The proper motivation includes benefits provided to the employees. The employees can be motivated in various ways like appreciation of the work performed, time for relaxation after completion of work, employees enjoy job with big responsibilities than too many few responsibilities. This activity made me realize that motivation theories of Maslow, McGregor play an important role for understanding employee’s psychology (Dugguh & Dennis, 2014).
Evaluation- This activity is important to me for evaluation of certain things regarding motivation and motivational factors. It helped me understood that work can be motivating if it is interesting and challenging, allows development of skills and provided the needed income and benefits. With the help of the Maslow’s hierarchy theory I am able to evaluate the satisfactory needs and the McGreogor’s Theory X and Theory Y helped me to understand the importance of job satisfaction (Lawter, Kopelman & Prottas, 2015). The studying of these theory helped me as a student to gain a theoretical knowledge about the factors of motivation which will help in future during my course of work.
Plan- This insight suggested me that I need to understand the importance of motivation and the important motivational factors so that the organizational goals are accomplished and the employees stay motivated. This would help me to become a competent and successful manager in future. In order to gain more knowledge about motivation in organization I will be reading the book by Pinder, 2014. Further, I will apply for some advanced management course which will help me as a student to gain more knowledge about the subject, which ultimately would help me in future to become a successful manager for the accomplishment of the goals.
Reflection 2- Effective Communication
Describe- An effective communication is a process in business communication which involves parties, two or more sending messages that can be understood easily. A company’s success depends largely on the effective business communication (Bovée, Thill & Raina, 2016). An organization would be nothing without social interactions. Without any social interactions the managers will not be able to manage, employees will not be able to collaborate as a result it will disrupt the decision making process. This help me to understand that communication plays an important role in business and while communicating professionalism should be maintained as I will be representing myself and the company. Communication is the work of the managers, the manager should ensure the better flow of the communication at all levels.
Interpret- The better understanding of the effective communication system is done with the help of an activity. The activity was based on the concept of types of communication. It is found while conducting the activity that there are four types of communication- Internal, Upward Communication, Internal, Downward Communication, Internal, Lateral Communication and External Communication. The success of communication depends on the manager, a manager is termed as communication champion. For the successful and effective communication system both the communicators and the listeners need to be efficient (Lucas & Rawlins, 2015). A listener has to be reflective so that message of the communicator is clearly understood and the misunderstandings are corrected and at the same time it enables problem solving.
Evaluation- This activity is important for me because it helped me to understand the importance of communication system in a business and how it contributes in the success of the business. This activity made me understood the importance of non-verbal communication also. In a business communication, the non-verbal communication is also important and it also helps in the achievement of the business goals. Non-verbal communication includes silence and eye contact (Hair Jr, et al.,2015). Similarly, it also helped me to understand the difference between one-way and two-way communication. One-way communication explains a communication without interactions and feedback whereas, in a two-way communication feelings and thoughts are exchanged.
Plan- This insight suggested me that I need to understand the importance of effective communication and the importance of business communication so that the organizational goals and objectives are achieved. This would help me to become an efficient and successful manager in future. In order to improve more knowledge about effective communication in organization I will be reading the book by Kaul, 2014 . I will also apply for some advanced management course which will help me as a student to gain more knowledge about this subject, which would ultimately help me in future to become a successful manager and accomplish the business goals.
Reflective 3- Leadership
Describe- Leadership is defined as the capacity of the management of the business to achieve predetermined goals and objectives of the business organization. The employees of the company need to know the direction where the company is headed and accordingly the leadership provides the employees the proper direction (Gallos, 2014). Without the proper leadership the employees would not be working properly and effectively as leadership ensures regular supervising of the completion of the tasks. People with good leadership skill tend to become CEO, COO or president. This insight helps to understand the importance of leadership in an organization and the qualities that are required to become a good leader in order to achieve the organizational objectives and goals.
Interpret- For the better understanding of the topic of leadership, an activity has been performed for showing the difference between leaders and managers. While performing the activity it has been found that a manager can become a leader but a leader cannot become a manager (). According to Smith, 2014, manager is a person who are accountable and executes plans and policies. A manager is also responsible for managing resources and at the same time they do the task of planning, organizing, directing and controlling whereas, leaders inspire and motivate employees along with the management of the employees. This activity also helped to understand the attributes that a leader must possess and the attributes should be positive attributes.
Evaluation- This activity helped me to have a better and practical understanding of leadership. The success of business largely depends on an effective leadership. It has been found in many researches that leadership is found to improve the success of the business (). It has also helped to understand that the leaders are to be chosen wisely so that it does not destroy the culture of the organization. It is also important to apply different leadership styles suitable for the organizational situations. According to Nanjundeswaraswamy & Swamy, 2014, there are different leadership styles like Democratic Leadership, Autocratic Leadership, Transformational Leadership, Laissez-Faire Leadership. As a leader, I should apply the appropriate leadership style for the betterment of the organization.
Plan- This insight suggested me that I need to understand the importance of effective leadership and the importance of good leader so that the organizational goal is achieved by the employees. This would help me to become an efficient and successful leader in future. In order to improve my skills and knowledge about effective leadership in an organization I will be reading the book by Rosenbach, 2018. I would also like to apply for some advanced management course which will help me as a student to gain more knowledge and clear my idea about this subject, which would ultimately help me in future to become a successful leader of an organization with a good number of followers.
