How to configure a first line indent for a paragraph

• Highlight the paragraph you would want th indent
• Click on the view tab on the menu bar
• Select ruler to display rulers on the window
• Indent the paragraph by dragging the upper triangle on the ruler inwards. The upper triangle is referred to as the first line indent marker
• Alternatively, you may place the cursor at the beginning of the paragraph and hit enter.

3 built-in styles that might be used in Microsoft Word

• Heading 1; used when one needs to apply a heading that is different from the rest of the document
• Heading 2: Used when there is more than one level of headings. The heading 2 is used to define a second level of the heading
• List style; used to define a list according to the different levels including numbering and bulleting

Built-in styles also make it easy to add a table of content. If a table contains the various heading styles, it is possible to insert a table of contents automatically.

Examples of when you might choose to create and use a building block in Microsoft Word

1. They may be used to input data that is often used like a letter head. This way, the data will be available for future use.
2. They may be used to lock a type of formatting if it is frequently used
3. They may be used if an object is to be used on various parts of a document eg company logo

Left, center, right, and decimal tab stops

A left tab stop aligns the text to the left of the tab stop while a right tab stop aligns text to the right of the tab stop. The center tab stop is used for centering the text on the tab stop. Finally, the decimal tab stop is for aligning numbers using the decimal tab.
