Minimum Wage

I live in the state of Wyoming, a state whose demography indicates an existence of all races. It is the second most sparsely populated state in the United States with a population of about 570,000 people. The median age of the people who live in the state is approximated to be 36.8 The racial diversity of the country handles about 91% Caucasians, 2% native Americans, 1% African Americans, and 1% Asians and other races make the rest of the population (“Wyoming Population 2019”, 2019). The employment statistics in the nation show that at least 70% of the people of Wyoming have a stable employment. 

I am for the an increase in the minimum wages in the state because I believe it would not hurt the state as much. The current minimum wage of the state corresponds to the federal government minimum wage and it stands at $7.25 an hour. It is a low minimum wage considering that the companies and employment organizations in the state have an always available labor and hence they do not have to look for specialists from other parts of the country (“Wyoming Minimum Wage 2019 – Minimum-Wage.org”, 2019). An increase in the minimum wage of the state would therefore help the  state to improve  the livelihoods of the workers, enhance their delivery of services and consequently, improve the  productiveness of the state in  general.

The view that increasing the minimum wage for the state would affect the unemployed people negatively does not hold for the state of Wyoming. The reason as to why it would not have an effect is that most of the unemployed people in the state are the elder population, most of whom are self-employed. Raising the minimum wage would therefore make even some of the self-employed people to seek employment thereby making labor more available for companies in the state.
