Optional: On average, over 80% of a CEO’s pay is connected to stock price, and thus, if the company does well, the CEO gets rewarded handsomely. In addition, some entrepreneur CEOs risk their family’s livelihood and invest all their personal savings to start a company. They work twice as many hours a week as most American workers, and they provide motivation for new entrants into the market that there can be a major payoff. But is this payoff too high? Are American CEOs paid too much? Why, or why not?

This course assisted me most with the critical thinking aspect of things. This course was a constant reminder to take a step back in situations and properly analyze them for the best possible outcome and that applies for just about every subject we covered. I do believe CEO’s are overpaid however I believe that the CEO’s who risk their livelihood should be rewarded handsomely. For me it is the CEO’s who take over once a company is successful, and they still get paid like they were the original CEO. One example for me is the CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (insurance provider) who made 19 million last year. Especially from a health care company where most believe that they are over charging for premiums it seems like a slap in the face to the consumer.
