OBJECTIVE
To help students learn how to search for jobs in individual business units of major entertainment conglomerates, and to locate entry level and internship opportunities.
INTRODUCTION
Planning your career path will continue throughout your professional life. In the initial stages, before you build a base of contacts to refer you to jobs, an important skill is searching for job openings. In this discussion we will search for what types of jobs are available on the career sites of major entertainment conglomerates.
INSTRUCTIONS
First Post – due Wed. by 11:59pm EST
1. Download two items:
— Job Site Resources document with company websites to help in your research
— Job Hunting Conglomerates slide presentation.
— Read the online article about career-building “20 Things 20-Somethings Don’t Get: at Forbes 20 Somethings
2. Go on the career sites of at several major conglomerates and explore the types of jobs posted. You may also wish to search for production jobs or jobs in sports team if that appeals to you . Many of the career sites will have a search engine that allows searching by state, region or type of job. Especially look for entry level or ‘early career’ opportunities and internships. Some companies specifically have early career opportunities designated.
NOTE: Conglomerates will own record companies, cable channels, networks, websites, film production and more. (for example, Disney owns ESPN, ABC, Disney channel, Disney Studios, theme parks, etc.) Therefore, jobs for the all companies within the conglomerate, and in many locations, may all be on the conglomerate’s career site.

Do not limit the second discussion post to “I agree,” “That’s great” and so forth. Substantiate the position by using meaningful observations to corroborate it, such as professional experiences, relationships, and citing scholarly sources etc. when appropriate. As a guide for high quality response posts, use the RISE model, which encourages the steps as outlined in the rubric.
The RISE Model:
Reflect: To recall, ponder, and communicate
Inquire: To seek information and/or provide ideas through questioning
Suggest: To introduce ideas for improvement of current iteration
Elevate: To raise to a higher degree or purpose of future iterations
