Night Worker by David Tenenbaum

My favorite thing about this story is the trajectory of Amber’s life. There is nothing special about it at first then all of a sudden things heat up.  Everyone needs a helping hand. It is heartwarming that despite all the backlash and chastising from people in her community, she still has one person. A stranger but a person all the same. 

Rewriting this book was an excellent decision. It feels fresh and determined to entertain. It will not stop until the reader is thoroughly thrilled. The author works at providing a scintillating plot. He narrates in simple language. The reader is taken through a chronology of events with meticulous precision. Careful not to lose or confuse.

Amber’s character is very well developed. Her emotions and struggles are relatable despite the story seeming so out there for most of us. The realization that she might very well be alone is hard on her and a tad depressing. 

For such a short book, the author seems to have spent too much of it narrating Amber’s life before the action begins. While it is important to have a backdrop or foundation (if you may), it could have been shorter. The reader might give up if they do not get a whiff of the plot promised in synopsis in the first three chapters.

All in all, it is an excellent story. It is well written. You will love Amber despite her choices and occasional naivety. David gets five stars out of five for this book. It is quite the trip.
