Nursing Journal Entry

The theory of choice for this assignment is the Theory of human caring. In particular, the study will explore the practicum experience of the changes in geriatrics and related diseases. The seven domains of nursing in geriatrics will be explored using Watson’s Caring Theory. One of the most significant elements of nursing practice is caring. Dr. Jean Watson’s Theory seams more appropriate while caring with geriatric patients because reductionistic medical cures are unnecessary (Swanson, 2012). The goal in geriatrics is to apply the theoretical knowledge in history to take, examine, diagnose, treat, and follow-up the patient. Applying the theory of human caring will assist the nurse practitioner to identify the best strategy to assess the geriatrics issue, explore health issues associated with the population, and formulate strategies to solve the issue.
In applying the 7 domains of advanced nursing practice, Watson’s theory of caring will provide direct clinic practice where geriatric are provided with the best WOCNCB specialty area (wound, ostomy, and continence care). The second element is to promote efficacious disease self-management which is attained using the aspect of guidance coaching. During the formulation of objectives, the element of evidence-based research was applied where the NP will apply theoretical knowledge to collect data, administer medication, and carry out the required procedures.
The fourth domain is a consultation where geriatric requires consultation between health practitioners. This was attained by ensuring that the advanced practice and association with the patients promotes care safety. The fifth domain is leadership which according to Remains (2015) operates in four areas: health policy arena, the nursing profession, health care systems, and direct clinical practice. The leadership element is applied to promote monitoring and evaluating the delivery of care to geriatrics to ensure they receive quality care. Lastly, it is the element of ethical decision making where Watson’s human caring theory will ensure the provision of care that is sensitive to age cohort, gender orientation, spiritual, religion, culture, and gender difference.
